There are lots of very tough enemies in7 Days To Die.From radiated zombies to undead bears, pretty much everything that moves is a threat to the player. While most regular zombies can be taken down with a couple of swift shots to the head, there are a few tanky enemies that can take quite the beating.
Not only that, but their attacks are incredibly deadly. Dire Wolves are amongthe toughest creatures in7 Days To Die. They have the ability to shatter bones, cause infections, and charge at the player with speed. While they are tough, there are a few things that you can do to increase your odds of surviving an encounter with a Dire Wolf.
Where To Find Dire Wolves
For the most part, Dire Wolves can be found in the Wasteland. That said, when your game stage gets high, they’ll begin popping up in other biomes as well. They are most prevalent in the Wasteland, but it’s not uncommon to see a few roaming around the Snow Biome. It’s worth keeping in mind that although it’s unlikely that you’ll encounter a Dire Wolf early on in your playthrough, it’s not impossible.
There are a few POIs that have a chance of spawning in a Dire Wolf. The Animal House and Doggos have a chance of spawning a Dire Wolf. They aren’t the only POIs that can contain a Dire Wolf, but they are among the lowest-tier buildings that have a chance of doing so. It is alsopossible to encounter a horde of Dire Wolves, but this is very unlikely. Roughly every 24 in-game hours, a random horde will make its way to your area. A horde normally consists of a handful of zombies. But, it’s alsopossible for a dog horde to spawn. Should this happen, there’s a very small chance that, instead of dogs, you’ll see a small wave of Dire Wolves charging your way.
Should you encounter a Dire Wold early on in your playthrough, the best thing to do is to attempt to avoid it. However, if that’s not possible, then there are some things you can do to give yourself an advantage over the beast.
The Best Way To Take Down Dire Wolves
The number one thing to do when you’ve come face to face with a Dire Wolf is to get out of its reach. Dire Wolf attacks are powerful. If possible, attempt to jump onto any ledge that is at least two blocks tall.If you can’t do that, then crafting a couple of blocks to jump on is the next best thing.
If a Dire Wolf can’t hit you, then you can take it down safely using ranged attacks. Also, if you are just two blocks above a Dire Wolf, then you should be able to clip it with a melee weapon. Unlike Radiated Zombies, Dire Wolves don’t have the ability to regenerate lost health. So, provided you are out of its reach, you don’t need to rush to kill it.Just like most enemies in the game, its head is the weak point. So, attempt to aim there.
There is one book that can really helpincrease your damage outputon all wolf enemies. The Hunter’s Journal Volume 2 boosts your damage by 10% when fighting wolves. This book can be found in random loot. It is also sold by traders on occasion. As for weapons, there are a few weapons that work great against the Dire Wolf:
Stun Baton
Repulsor
Charged Hits Will Throw The Dire Wolf Back And Paralyze It For A Moment
Spear
Serrated Blade
Great Reach, Chance For Extra Bleed Damage With Serrated Blade Mod
It’s important to note that almost every weapon in the game can take down a Dire Wolf if used correctly. That said, the ones listed above are among the most efficient when it comes to taking down a Dire Wolf. you may also use explosives. However, it’s very easy to accidentally injure yourself since it’s difficult to gain enough distance from a Dire Wolf in order to use an explosive weapon.Dire Wolves don’t have any ranged attacks. If they see you, they will try to get close enough to hit you, making explosives almost obsolete.
Spike traps and hatches can also be quite effective against Dire Wolves if they are trying to get inside a building.Placing a hatch in a doorway will slow down the Dire Wolf’s ability to enter. A regular doorway has a height of two blocks, and an open hatch reduces that height to one block, which normally prevents Dire Wolves from being able to enter. While they may occasionally make their way over the hatch, more often than not, they’ll need to break the hatch to get in. The only downside to this is that the Dire Wolf can still hit you through the hatch if you get too close, so be sure to keep some distance if you are using a hatch to block a doorway.
Also, spike traps will cause bleed damage and help to slow the creature down. However, using spikes does come with some drawbacks. The first is that you won’t get any XP for kills made using a spike trap. Dire Wolves typicallygive the player a hefty amount of XP, so losing that XP because the creature died in a spike isn’t ideal. Also, spike traps do break relatively fast. A single spike trap is not going to be enough to kill a Dire Wolf. You’ll need to either use multiple spike traps or land attacks on the wolf while it’s trying to make its way through the trap. The final drawback of using a hatch is the risk of self-injury. Should you accidentally step into the spike trap you placed down, you will not only get hurt, but it can cause bleed damage, which would require you to use a bandage.
Dire Wolf Rewards
Just like all other animals in the game, once killed, a Dire Wolf can be harvested for materials. While you won’t get any raw meat from a dead Dire Wolf, you will get bones, fat, and rotten flesh. While these may not sound very appealing to new players, each of these resources can be used to craft some pretty crucial items, such as glue, torches, and farm plot blocks.
Not only can they be harvested for materials, butDire Wolves have a 100% chance of dropping a red loot bag upon death.A red loot bag is one ofthe best loot containers in7 Days To Die.While the contents will vary, you’re able to expect to find books/magazines, ammo, meds, weapons, and various other top-tier items.
Since Dire Wolves are guaranteed to dropa red loot bag, farming them can be very lucrative. If you are a high enough level, and you’ve got plenty of meds and ammo, it’s worth heading to the Wasteland and hunting down Dire Wolves. If you have the motorcycle, then it’s even more profitable since it’s the best vehicle to use when trying to navigate the rough terrain of the Wasteland.
