Fortniteis no stranger to big collaborations and crossovers. Since the game’s launch back in 2017, developer Epic Games has managed to secure team-ups with some of the biggest brands and franchises in pop culture. From Marvel to anime series,Fortnitehas covered a lot of ground in this regard, and one of these many successful crossovers is withTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Recently,TMNTwas featured in another crossover withFortnite, asTMNTvillains like Bebop and Rocksteadymade their way into the battle royale. These skins may have only been available for a short amount of time, but ifFortnitehas proven anything with this continuing crossover, it’s that Epic Games is skilled at nailing the character designs of itsTMNTcharacters. If another action adventure title based around the martial arts foursome comes to fruition, taking note ofFortnite’s character design is a must.
Fortnite’s TMNT Skins Should Be the New Standard for Adapting the Crime-Fighting Turtles
Staying True to the Source Material
What makes the designs ofFortnite’sTMNTskins so strong for an adaptation is that they stick to the initial cartoonishness of the original comics while still having their own spin on the characters.TMNThas been featured in a variety of video games, whether it be its own spin-offs or crossovers. When it comes to crossovers, some games get the character design down a lot better than others.Fortnitehas proven to be the blueprint for what a solid video game version of Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo may look like. On the other hand, though,Call of Duty’s recentTMNTmatch-upis wild, as the game’s realistic graphics make the turtles look a little more monstrous than usual.
Two differentTMNTgames are launching this month.Teenage Mutant Turtles: Splintered Fatehits PS5 on May 20, whileTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedownlaunches May 22. The former will also come to Xbox on June 24.
The Last Ronin Could Open the Door to Some Strong Character Design
Inspired by the comic series of the same name,The Last Roninfollows Michelangelo as the last standing Turtle. Despite its dark subject matter, its teaser trailer has hinted at a more stylized version of the Turtles that keeps the franchise’s comic book roots at heart. It’s an exciting project that has a lot ofTMNTfans eager for more information. It’s unclear when THQ Nordic is planning a release window, but it will be fascinating to see what the character design has in store.
The Last Roninis even set to get a live-action movie adaptation.
Fortnite Can Continue to Grow Its TMNT Partnership
SincetheTMNTfranchiseis constantly showing up in other video games,Fortnite’s exclusive skins are bound to pop back up again. From the four titular Turtles to April O’Neil,Fortnitehas continued to make itsTMNTcrossovers eye-catching.
Of course, when it comes to craftinga strongTMNTgame, action-packed gameplay is also incredibly important. However, solid character design can be just as beneficial to drawing players into a world. Striking a good balance between the two can really make a game stand out, andTMNTis a great franchise to bring such a balance to life.
Considering thatThe Last Roninis waiting in the distance, it wouldn’t be too surprising ifFortniteintroduced its own skin inspired by the comic arc in the future. Only time will tell, but it will be interesting to see ifFortnite’sTMNTskins influence character designs for future games.
