The imminent release of the Nintendo Switch 2 includes a library of third-party games.Hades 2is currently in Early Access on PC and Mac, and Supergiant Games has stated that it has no intention of releasing it on other platforms while it’s still in Early Access. However, onceHades 2officially launches, it will be released on both the Switch and the Switch 2. Supergiant Games hasn’t announced whenHades 2will be released, with speculation that it will be towards the end of 2025.Hades 2’s timeline to its full release is up in the air, and there is still one more major update before v1.0 and a Switch 2 launch.
TheHadesgames have had a history with Switch releases, and the firstHadeswas released on the original Switch as a timed console exclusive. Supergiant will have the chance to go back toHadesand possibly release it on the Switch 2 in the years to come. This gives Supergiant the opportunity to remasterHades, and add some extra storytelling and features alongside optimizing it.
How Revisiting Hades Could Make It Better
Hadeshasn’t been announced to be released on the Switch 2, but it’s very possible that it will eventually make its way to the Switch 2. To do this,Hadeswould have to beoptimized for the Switch 2, and returning to it presents the opportunity to give it some updates beyond optimization.
The original release ofHadeswill be playable on the Switch 2 via the console’s backward compatibility.
Implementing New Features in Hades For the Switch 2
AHadesSwitch 2 edition could include all the content from the original, and possibly add some extra lines of dialogue or references toHades 2. Without spoiling the events ofHades 2, a Switch 2-optimizedHadescould add some features from the sequel, such as one of theweapons and aspects Melinoe uses, Charon’s delivery service, its garden, and its gifting mechanic.
The Switch 2 is set to use faster microSD cards than the Switch, which would giveHadesfaster loading times between rooms and after death. It would also likely be able to reach a higher frame rate, which is essential forHades, where gameplay success often relies on reaction times. On a platform with more processing power,Hadescould have better VFX and art closer in style toHades, with improved sprite models and animation, and more detailed backgrounds.
Updating in a Post-Hades 2 World
A re-release ofHadesfor the Switch 2 would have the benefit of hindsight, and it would be possible to include foreshadowing for story points that appear inHades 2. Supergiant would have to do this without including spoilers, and so any foreshadowing would have to be very subtle.
Foreshadowing Hades 2’s Events
Includingforeshadowing inHadeswould get new players excited about the next game, whileHades 2players will be able to pinpoint any foreshadowing and Easter eggs that will later become relevant. A way to do this without spoilingHades 2is through the Fated List of Minor Prophecies. The Fated List has the advantage of being vague, while also alluding to events that will happen at some point in the future. Another connection is the role the Fates play inHades 2.
Introducing Chaos Trials
Hadescould also include Chaos Trials, which could include references toHades 2,such as fighting enemies fromHades 2, transporting Zagreus to an Underworld environment inHades 2, or referencing Melinoe’s battles when she’s transported to Asphodel during the time period Zagreus was attempting to escape.
