TheDOOMgames are better known for their fantastic combat than they are their rich lore, although that’s not to say that a lot of time and effort hasn’t gone into the latter. Players can see this for themselves inDOOM: The Dark Ages, not just inthe game’s story and worldbuilding, but also through the collectible codex entries that can be found scattered throughout its 22 chapters.
There are 26 codex entries in total, providing additional information about key characters and locations. Finding them all will reward players with the Lore Nerd Trophy / Achievement, while also counting towards each chapter’s completion rate. The following guide provides instructions on how to find all of the codex entries inDOOM: The Dark Ages, as well as maps showing their exact locations.
Where to Find the First Codex Entry in Chapter 1 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Doom Slayer)
InChapter 1 ofDOOM: The Dark Ages, there’s a section where players will need to destroy four Demonic Portals. Behind one of these portals is a pathway and a climbable wall, which leads up to the Doom Slayer codex entry.
Where to Find the Second Codex Entry in Chapter 1 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Village of Khalim)
Just before the end of Chapter 1, players will need to kill a bunch of demons to bring down a large red forcefield. After doing so, they should follow the path until they see a climbable wall to their right. If they climb up it, they’ll find the Village of Khalim codex entry near some Sentinel soldiers.
Where to Find the Codex Entry in Chapter 2 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Hebeth)
Near the start of Chapter 2, there’s a point where players need to pull a lever to open a door. If they keep heading straight after opening the door and dropping down into the next area, they’ll pass through a doorway with green light strips on either side. Immediately after doing so, they should turn to their left and jump over the crates, which will take them to a secret area with the Hebeth codex entry.
Where to Find the Codex Entry in Chapter 4 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Sentinel Barracks)
Near the very end of Chapter 4, when players are instructed toget to the Dragon’s Den, they’ll eventually come to a large, open area with a Sentinel Shrine at the opening. Before heading into this area, they should follow the path to their left, which will lead them around to some gold and the Sentinel Barracks codex entry.
Where to Find the First Codex Entry in Chapter 5 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Deag Loric)
During the middle section of Chapter 5, players will need to destroy four Hell Carriers. Upon reaching the core of the Hell Carrier beneath the cathedral (the one in which theyfind the Cycler), they should double back and head under the metal railing that they just dropped down from. There, they’ll find some gold and the Deag Loric codex entry.
Where to Find the Second Codex Entry in Chapter 5 DOOM: The Dark Ages (The Holy City of Aratum)
After finding the Super Shotgun in Chapter 5, players should head inside the nearby building and take the first door on their right. This will lead them back outside to an area with a metal cross that they can break with their shield. Doing so will allow them to shield charge the nearby block and then use it to climb the ledge near the Super Shotgun container. From there, they should follow the wooden scaffolding around and head back inside the building through the broken window. The Holy City of Aratum codex entry is down the long corridor in this new area.
Where to Find the First Codex Entry in Chapter 6 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Siege - Part 1)
During the Gore Portals section of Chapter 6, players will pass through an area with an Atlan fighting a Titan in the background. There are a few piles of debris here that they can jump on, and the Siege - Part 1 codex entry is on top of one of them.
Where to Find the Second Codex Entry in Chapter 6 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Kreed Maykr)
Over on one of the far sides of the map, not far from a large body of shallow water with a bunch of enemies in it, players will find a Sentinel Shrine. If they head toward the edge of the map from this shrine, they should see a climbable wall, on top of which is the Kreed Maykr codex entry and a few pieces of gold, not too far fromthe Mancubus collectible toy.
Where to Find the Codex Entry in Chapter 7 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Siege - Part 2)
If players grabbedthe Chapter 7 secret key, they’ll be able to use it to unlock a gate that leads to a trail of gold and two shield enemies. After defeating them both, they’ll be free to grab the Siege - Part 2 codex.
Where to Find the Codex Entry in Chapter 8 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Abyssal Forest)
During Chapter 8, players will need to find a path through the barracks. If they hug the right wall, they’ll eventually come to a row of shield enemies. To the right of this spot are some vines that they’ll be able to break through using a shield charge, and behind these vines is the Abyssal Forest codex entry.
Where to Find the First Codex Entry in Chapter 9 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Ancestral Forge)
The first Chapter 9 codex entry is near the spectral wolf statues. To reach it, players will need to drop off a nearby ledge to a wooden platform, on top of which they’ll find the Ancestral Forge codex entry along with some pieces of gold.
Where to Find the Second Codex Entry in Chapter 9 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (King Novik)
While navigating the underground section with the moving platforms, players will come to a point where they need to throw the Shield Saw at a blue gear in order to progress. If they double back to the previous platform and then turn to face the direction of the blue gear, they’ll see a red metal cross that they can break with a shield throw up above them. They can then use the blue gear to raise the platform as intended, but rather than continuing onward, they should jump back and grab onto the platform that they just lowered. It’s then just a simple matter of using the green shield statue and a little bit of jumping to reach the King Novik codex entry.
Where to Find the First Codex Entry in Chapter 10 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (The Forsaken Plains)
During the “Destroy the Hell Cannons” section of Chapter 10, players will come to aSentinel Shrinenear a spiked metal plate that drops down from the ceiling when approached. If they head away from the shrine in the direction of the falling plate, they’ll soon come to some trails of gold, one of which leads straight to the Forsaken Plains codex entry.
Where to Find the Second Codex Entry in Chapter 10 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Prince Ahzrak)
Assuming players picked upthe Chapter 10 secret keyearlier on, they’ll be able to use it to open a gate near the fallen Atlan. Doing so will take them to an enclosed area with a few demons, some gold, and the Prince Ahzrak codex entry.
Where to Find the Codex Entry in Chapter 12 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Sentinel Command Station)
Near the start of Chapter 12, players will need to head inside some vents. After exiting them, they should hug the right wall until they come to an area with some gold and the Sentinel Command Station codex entry.
Where to Find the First Codex Entry in Chapter 14 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Spire of Nerathul)
Early on in Chapter 14, players will find themselves in an area in which they need to drain some water to access one of the Stasis Emitters. The Spire of Nerathul codex entry is on a ledge near where the water was previously flowing.
Where to Find the Second Codex Entry in Chapter 14 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Serrat)
During the “Release the Old One” section of Chapter 14, players will need to climb to the top of a derelict structure. Once they can climb no higher, they’ll come to an elevator that’s activated by a green platform on the ground, which acts as a point of no return. Before stepping onto the green platform, they should look for a path just off to the right of the entrance to the elevator, as this is where they can find the codex entry for Serrat.
Where to Find the Codex Entry in Chapter 15 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (City of Ry’uul)
During the “Activate the Portal” section of Chapter 15, players should look for a ledge over on one side of the map. Dropping down here will lead to a trail of gold and a climbable wall, on top of which is the City of Ry’uul codex.
Where to Find the Codex Entry in Chapter 16 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (The Witch)
The Chapter 16 codex is behind a metal grate near the center of the map. To reach it, players should follow the rocky outcrop around and then jump across to the platform with the armor pickups on it. From here, they should be able to see a blue gear through a hole in the wall of the chamber with the codex. Throwing their shield at the gear will raise the grate, allowing players to grab the codex entry for the Witch.
Where to Find the Codex Entry in Chapter 17 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Temple of Lomarith)
During the first big underwater section of Chapter 17, players should look for an upturned shipwreck floating nearby. Inside it, they’ll find the Temple of Lomarith codex entry.
Where to Find the Codex Entry in Chapter 18 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Commander Thira)
The Commander Thira codex entry is in a gap in one of the inner walls of the “Destroy the Organ” section of Chapter 18. To reach it, players will need to follow the path around to the upper area of the beast’s belly and then run through some stomach acid.
Where to Find the First Codex Entry in Chapter 19 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Harbor of Souls)
The Harbor of Souls codex entry is out in the open in an area to the left of the main path. It’s almost impossible to miss, particularly for those who are regularlychecking the map to look for collectibles.
Where to Find the Second Codex Entry in Chapter 19 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Hell Priests)
Upon reaching the final point of no return in Chapter 19, at the end of the section with the flames and moving metal platforms, players should turn around and follow the path to their left, which loops around to the Hell Priests codex entry.
Where to Find the First Codex Entry in Chapter 20 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Resurrection)
If players drop down from the ledge behind the yellow key, they’ll find a key door to their right. Behind this door is the Resurrection codex entry, and alsothe Cosmic Baron collectible toy.
Where to Find the Second Codex Entry in Chapter 20 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Commander Valen)
After destroying all of the siege towers in Chapter 20, players will need tomount the Slayer’s dragonso that they can fly up and confront the Kreed Maykr. Immediately after landing on the Kreed ship, they should turn around and look for the Commander Valen codex entry, which is right on the edge of the landing pad.
Where to Find the Codex Entry in Chapter 22 of DOOM: The Dark Ages (Marok)
Shortly after shield charging their way through the green gate at the start of Chapter 22, players will find themselves overlooking a large battlefield. Rather than dropping down and joining the chaos, though, they should follow the path to their right, which will lead them to the Marok codex entry. Assuming they collected all of the other codex entries inDOOM: The Dark Ages, they’ll unlockthe Lore Nerd Trophy / Achievementat this point.
