After you complete the “Pilgrimage” quest inOblivion Remastered,you’ll begin a series of quests to collect theCrusader’s Relicsand create theKnights of the Nine armor. As part of theKnights of the NineDLC, this armor set can be collected as soon as you wish, though there are different schools of thought on when the best time to do so is. However, this guide is primarily concerned with showing youhow to get the Crusader’s Relics inOblivion Remastered,andcomplete theKnights of the NineDLC.
Helm of the Crusader Location – Oblivion Remastered
Shrine of the Crusader Quest Walkthrough:
TheHelm of the Crusaderis thefirst Crusader’s Relicthat you can find, and can be acquired through the"Shrine of the Crusader" quest. This quest tasks the player with entering theVanuaunderwater ruin and locating a formerKnight of the NinenamedSir Amiel.This fallen knight died trying to complete the same task that you have been asked to fulfill.
The entrance to Vanua is found on the floor ofLake Rumare, on the northeast side of the bridge that separates the lake from The Upper NIben river. This bridge is found in the southeast corner of the lake. The quest marker will give you the exact location of theDoor to Vanua.
Vanua is only the first section of this ruin. As you make your way along the main path, you’ll reach the small wooden door to theShrine of the Crusader.
Make sure to takeSir Amiel’s Ringfrom his body, as it plays an important role in “Priory of the Nine.” If you forget the ring, you’ll have to come all the way back to the Shrine of the Crusader to get it.
Shortly after entering the Shrine of the Crusader, you’ll drop into a large chamber with a square platform that is lined with ancient pillars. In the center of the platform you’ll find the skeletal remains of SIr Amiel. Look at his arm, and you’ll see theKnights of the Nine Shield, which is available to loot. This is not, however, theShield of the Crusader, which is found later. Searching Sir Amiel will unlock the next quest, which is called “Priory of the Nine.“However, “Shrine of the Crusader” will not be finished. You’ll complete it when you locate theCrusader’s Helmfurther on in the final section of the Shrine of the Crusader.
Absolutelydo not forget to take Sir Amiel’s Ringwhen you search his body.
The Lost Catacombs:
After encountering the body of Sir Amiel in the Shrine of the Crusader, use his key to open the western gate. Follow the main path until you reach the door to the third section of the ruins,The Lost Catacombs. You’ll face many skeleton enemies in this short stretch of ruin, so be careful as you proceed.
You’ll encounter two separate doors that lead you back to the Shrine of the Crusader while in the Lost Catacombs. The easy way to know which door you should use is to check the compass. The red quest marker on the compass will tell you when you are going through the right door, as it will show very few steps.
After going through the door, you’ll come to a literal shrine, with theHelm of the Crusaderon a small table above the brazier with blue flames. Take the helm, then jump to the lower level to exit the shrine, and move on to “Priory of the Nine”.
Cuirass of the Crusader Location – Oblivion Remastered
Priory of the Nine Quest Walkthrough:
The second Crusader’s Relic that you can acquire is the Cuirass of the Crusader, the centerpiece of the set. To collect this item, you’ll need to visit thePriory of the Nine,which sits east of Skingrad, along the southern border in theWest Weald.
Enter the priory’s front door, then as soon as you are inside, turn left, and then left again. You should see a large Knights of the Nine symbol on the ground in front of the windows. Approach the symbol, and selectActivatewhen prompted. The symbol will turn into a flight of stairs leading down to a secret chamber beneath the priory.
In the lower chamber, look for the door near the training dummy. This is theDoor to Priory Undercroft. Open this door, and you’ll find yourself in the Knights of the Nine’s secret meeting chamber. You’ll see the Cuirass of the Crusader on the wall ahead of you, but it will suddenly be blocked by some sort of magical barrier.
Suddenly, the ghosts of all former Knights of the Nine will form a circle in the chamber. Speak to the ghost of Sir Amiel, and he’ll inform you that you must face each of the Knights in single combat to prove you are worthy of the Crusader’s Relic. Once you defeat each member, the Cuirass of the Crusader will become available for you to collect.
After you collect the cuirass, speak to each of the ghosts. You’ll unlock the clues to find the Shield of the Crusader, Boots of the Crusader, Mace of Zenithar, and Gauntlets of the Crusader. Each item will feature its own quest that you can activate. Once you complete the first set of quests, you’ll receive the final quest that leads you to the Greaves of the Crusader and the Sword of the Crusader.
Boots & Gauntlets of the Crusader Location – Oblivion Remastered
Nature’s Fury Quest Walkthrough – Boots of the Crusader:
“Nature’s Fury” takes you to theAltar of Kynareth, which is just west of the Imperial City. If you haven’t visited the area yet, you can fast-travel to the Chestnut Handy Stables on the western side of the city, then head directly west to the quest marker.
When you arrive at the marker, you’ll see several attendants at the sight of worship. Speak toAvita Vesnia, who’ll explain that you must complete a test from Kynareth. She does not tell you much about this test, other than the fact that you should remember to ‘fear and respect’ nature. She tells you to walk west into the Great Forest.
When you reach the next quest marker, you’ll find a small clearing surrounded by large stones. You’ll receive a quest update that tells you to wait and see what Kynareth has in store. Shortly after the update, a Forest Guardian will approach you in the form of a bear.Do not attack the bear. You can try to avoid being attacked, but do not do anything that could be seen as returning hostilities.
If you avoid fighting back, Kynareth will be pleased, opening a door in one of the large rocks that reveals the entrance to a cave. Inside the cave, you’ll find the Boots of the Crusader.
Stendarr’s Mercy – Gauntlets of the Crusader:
To collect theGauntlets of the Crusader, you’ll need to head to theChapel of StendarrinChorrol. The quest is relatively quick, but it requires taking on the curse of an unfortunate young man namedKellen.
Inside the Chapel of Stendarr, you’ll see the Gauntlets of the Crusader on the ground behind the main shrine. Unfortunately, they have been affected by a curse, which renders them too heavy to pick up. Speak to Areldur, the priest in charge of the chapel. He’ll tell you of Kellen, the descendant of the Knight who was wearing the gauntlets when he was cursed. The curse has spread through generations, and now affects him.
After speaking with Kellen, return to confront Areldur. He’ll admit that he knows of a way to cure Kellen, but cannot bring himself to do it. He explains that the curse can only be removed from Kellen if someone else takes it on. He will explain how the process works. You must pray at the altar, asking Stendarr for the power to remove the curse from Kellen.
After praying at the altar, Stendarr will imbue you with theLay Handsspell. The curse appears to affect your Fatigue level somehow, but for now, return to Kellen and cast the Lay Hands spell on him. He will be cursed, you will be cursed, but you can now collect the Gauntlets of the Crusader.
Mace of the Crusader Location – Oblivion Remastered
The Path of the Righteous Quest:
You must collect and equip the Boots of the Crusader before collecting the Mace of the Crusader.
TheMace of Zenithar, also called theMace of the Crusader, is likely the easiest Crusader’s Relic to collect. Once you have the Boots of the Crusader, head to theGreatChapel of ZenitharinLeyawiin.
Once you enter the chapel, a guard named Carodus Oholin will automatically engage with you. Speak with him to learn about the mace, then make your way downstairs to theChapel Undercroft.
In the Undercroft, walk to the back of the chamber and interact with theTomb of Saint Kaladas.This will transport you to another realm, where the Mace of the Crusader can be seen on an isolated pillar in the center of a dark void.
There is a path of light that leads out to the mace. With the Boots of the Crusader equipped, simply walk out to the Mace of the Crusader and collect it.
Shield of the Crusader Location – Oblivion Remastered
Wisdom of the Ages:
“Wisdom of the Ages” takes you to Fort Bulwark, which is not far northeast of Leyawiin. This fort is overrun withConjurers,so make sure you are prepared for a real fight.
This is a massive dungeon, though it is not particularly difficult to navigate. There are three key points where you need to take specific actions, so, instead of focusing on every twist and turn of Fort Bulwark, we’ll show you how to complete these specific puzzles. For the majority of the fort, you can simply follow the quest marker in the compass.
The first locationis not a puzzle specifically, but a lever that is easy to miss, and can stop your progress dead if you don’t locate it. At the end of the first major area, you’ll encounter the chamber with the first Conjurer Adept, who is accompanied by another regular Conjurer. After you defeat them, turn the lever that is against the wall within the same chamber.
Then, as you leave the chamber, make a left when you come to the split. Follow that path all the way to its end, and you’ll encounter another lever that must be activated. This will lower a drawbridge below, which you can see from the lever.
The next location is the first major puzzle room. This one is pretty simple if you speak to the prisoner. Turn all the statues so they are facing the circle in the center. This will reveal the exit that allows you to continue to the final area.
The third chamber is the final puzzle. In this chamber, you’ll find a wall lined with small chests, and a large chest in the center of the chamber. Normally, you have to pay attention to the item that is revealed when you step on the switch in front of the large chest, then slowly learn where each item is supposed. This took us forever to do organically, so I highly suggest using the system below.
If you arestanding with your back to the large chest, looking at the exit, we’re going tonumber the small chests left to right. There are eight chests, and eight items you must place. You pick one item from the large chest at a time. You’ll know you’ve placed the right item when the statue above the chest turns around. The item order is as follows:
Greaves & Sword of the Crusader Location – Oblivion Remastered
The Faithful Squire Quest – Greaves & Sword of the Crusader:
The final two Crusader’s Relics come as a sort of package deal. When you return to the Priory of the Nine after collecting the previous six pieces, you’ll immediately encounterLathon,the squire of another knight who had gone in search of the relics. He tells you the tale of how his former master found theGreaves of the Crusaderand Sword of the Crusader. As his master was dying, he used his last breath to ensure Lathon took the Greaves.
Lathon gives you the Greaves of the Crusader on the spot. He then tells you that the Sword of the Crusader has been cursed by the wraith that killed his master, and you must go to Underpall Cave to retrieve it.
Before leaving for Underpall Cave, make sure your armor is fully repaired, and any enchanted items you use are fully charged.
Underpall Cave is located along the Orange Road, northeast of Chorrol. If you agree to knight Lathon, he will accompany you on the quest to collect the sword.
Underpall Cave is a massive complex, and it can be fairly confusing. Luckily, there is a fairly straight method of reaching your destination. After you enter the cave, you’ll make your way to the doors ofUnderpall Keep,a massive underground fort complex. The entire structure is overrun with Ghosts, Zombies, Skeletons, and Skeleton Guardians. That last enemy is a particularly tough foe, especially when they are in large numbers.
Once you enter Underpall Keep, make a left into the first large chamber, and then immediately turn left and enter the first corridor you see. This is how most players will get lost, is not realizing they are supposed to make this double left turn right after entering the keep.
After entering the corridor, it’s essentially a straight line to theUnderpall Reflecting Chamber. After going through the next door into the Reflecting Chamber, head to the end of the long tunnel and make a right. Wind your way through the narrow paths, and you’ll quickly come to a massive chamber with a large lake. You’ll see Lord Berich Vlindrel floating on the edge of the lake. This is the enemy who holds the Sword of the Crusader.
Vlindrel is a wraith, so he is not susceptible to regular melee damage. Using an enchanted weapon will work, or a spell. We were able to take him down surprisingly quickly using the simple Flames spell. Once he his killed, he will drop the sword. It is not found on his remains, you must pick up the sword where it dropped.
Once you have the sword, you must take it to be reconsecrated before you may use it. You must take it to theGrand Chapel of ArkayinCheydinhal. When you arrive, the chapel will be under attack by severalAurorans. Defeat them, then use the large altar in the center of the chapel to reconsecrate the sword. This completes your list of Crusader’s Relics.
