In the classic version ofThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, 10 different DLCs were available to adventurous players who wanted to spend more time exploring every corner of Cyrodiil. These new locations included extra quests, player housing, and helpful items and resources.
The new version,The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, features all of the same DLCs included in the base game. Conveniently, today’s players don’t have to buy them separately, nor do they have to wait for the developer to release more content. They are free to enjoy the whole bundle at once. 7The Wizard’s Tower
Also Known As Frostcrag Spire
Frostcrag Spire is one of the more isolated locations included inOblivion’s DLC collection, and it takes some time to navigate the twisting mountain roads the first time a player visits. After that time, however, they can use the handy portals on a balcony off the living area connected tothe various Mage Guilds throughout Cyrodiil, granting easy passage to all major cities.
There are two ways to access the locked door leading into the tower. It’s a medium-level lock that the character can pick, or they can do some exploring and find the abandoned campsite on the southern side of the mountain where the key is hidden. Immediately upon entry, they’ll find a journal that details the features available in the tower,such as the gardenand enchanting tools, and how they can be improved.
6The Thieves Den
Dunbarrow Cave, Pirate Hideout
This DLC includes a new player home along with a questline that starts as soon as the player arrives at the hidden doorstep. Reaching the half-submerged door requires some light swimming, and the humble cave that forms part of the entrance has a bedroll and can be used as a safe place to sleep.
The description of the Thieves Den as a pirate stronghold is no joke. There’s even a pirate ship and a dining hall, but the catch is that the player has to clear out all the dead pirates who forgot to stay in the ground. After dealing with these pesky undead, players should visit Dahlia Rackham in Anvil Bay,an NPC that only exists because of this DLC, and she’ll assist with some renovations and hiring a crew - just less skeletal this time.
5The Vile Lair
The Comforting Dark Of Deepscorn Hollow
Oblivion Remasteredplayers should bring an underwater breathing potion or ensure that their character hasa decent swimming skill levelbefore trying to find the underwater entrance to the Vile Lair. It’s tucked under some rocks sticking out from the water, and it’s a small wooden door that can be difficult to see.
The Vile Lair is very much like the Wizard’s Tower in the sense that it’s isolated and deeply hidden, but it also has similar features, like an interior garden for rare alchemy ingredients and a Font of Renewal, which cancure a character of vampirism. This is an ideal lair for those who enjoy playing a darker game or hunting the monsters that do.
4Shivering Isles
A Date With A Daedra
This DLC doesn’t include player housing, but it’s still one of the biggest in terms of what it offers, the first and most obvious being a whole plane of Oblivion to explore, the Shivering Isles. This encompasses a whole 30 hours of gameplay by itself, so players will need to be prepared to dedicate some time to everyone’s favorite Daedric Prince.
The Shivering Isles is the realm of Sheogorath,the mad and chaotic Daedric prince, and he’s seeking a Champion to defend his realm against the Greymarch. This is the annual event led by the Forces of Order that destroy everything he’s built in the Isles and force him to start over again.
3The Fighters Stronghold
Safe In Battlehorn Castle
Frostcrag Spire is for the magically inclined, Dunbarrow Cave and Deepscorn Hollow are for those who dwell in darkness, and Battlehorn Castle is for the fighting characters ofOblivion. Easily found on the road leading west from Chorrol, nestled in the wooded mountain foothills, this is one of the easiest player homes to get. Players can kill the marauders attacking the castle to take possession and visit Nilphas Omellian in the Imperial City to purchase some upgrades.
This is a castle, so it has all the appropriate features, like a dining hall, trophy room, armory, and upscale living quarters. There area few secret passagesand hidden rooms to discover, and one of them contains Lord Jaren’s Journal, which directs the new tenant to the hidden lair of some unwanted undead visitors.
2Sundercliff Watch
The Resting Place Of Mehrunes' Razor
For those who enjoy the lore of the Chimer, this takes the player deep into their underground world. Players can search through Sundercliff Village,which is also underground, to find the journal of Frathen Drothan, who will reveal how to enter the lost Ayelid city of Varsa Baalim underneath Sundercliff Watch.
A fearsome dungeon that’s designed to be one of the hardest in the game, the caverns beneath Sundercliff Watch were originally included with the Knights of the Nine expansion. It features nine levels and 23 zones, and the legendary Mehunes' Razor is just the beginning of the massive loot pile waiting at the end.
