One important example of that inClair Obscur: Expedition 33is status effects and buffs/debuffs. There are a variety of them to be mindful of throughout your adventures in the game and if you’re not sure how many there are, this guide outlines each of them and what they do, so that you know how to prepare.
All Status Effects in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and How They Work
There are 14 different Status Effects found throughoutClair Obscur: Expedition 33, and they’re ailments designed to inhibit their target in one way or another. Status Effects can be applied to enemies or bosses (if they’re vulnerable to it), or onto your party members by the enemies themselves.
As such, along with powerful items such asChroma Elixirs, it’s always important to have reliable recovery abilities equipped on your party that can help cure such ailments in the heat of battle. You can always swap out abilities, depending on the challenge you’re facing.
What It Does
Mark
Character/Enemy’s damage taken is increased by 50% but only for one instance
Character/Enemy will take damage instead when healed
Targeted character/enemy is prevented from taking their next turn
Freeze
Prevents character/enemy from taking any turns until they receive damage, which negates the status effect
Charm
Prevents character/enemy from freely taking their next turn, and they will instead automatically attack an ally
Blight
A stacked status ailment that reduces character/enemy’s total health by 10% per stack
Berserk
A stacked status ailment that increases character/enemy’s attack power by 5% each turn, for up to 12 possible stacks
Cursed
A death-inspired status ailment that kills the character/enemy at the end of its duration
The enemy/character can’t use any skills for its duration
Dizzy
The enemy/character will have a significantly difficult time aiming for its duration, causing attacks to miss
Exhausted
The enemy/character cannot replenish AP from any source for its duration
The enemy/character cannot dodge for its duration
The enemy/character takes two turns in succession
Shield
Not so much an ailment, but an obstacle set by enemies; Protects an enemy from a set amount of attacks, depending on the number of shields above their health bar
All Buffs and Debuffs in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and How They Work
Opposite to status effects, which are most often negative and debilitating, “buffs” are a temporary beneficial effect foryour party membersthat provide some manner of protection or positive boost to their stats. They can usually be implemented via different Skills or Pictos, either on one target or the entire party.
However, there are also “debuffs” which, similar to status effects, are negative in nature, but they directly cripple a party member’s stats for a certain duration, such as attack power or defense.
Reduces all damage taken by 20% for its duration
Increases speed by 33% for its duration
Regen
Heals 10% of the character’s health at the start of every turn until the buff ends
Increases damage dealt by 25% for its duration
Reduces damage dealt by 25% for its duration
Reduces speed by 25% for its duration
Increases total damage received by 25% for its duration
