Filming onHouse of the DragonSeason 3 has been underway for nearly a month, but the cast continues to grow. The latest addition is an unexpected but no less lovable star fromAndor.
Fans should expect an influx of new characters in the upcoming season ofHouse of the Dragonas things heat up between both sides of the Targaryen Civil War—the Greens, headed by Aemond Targaryen and Otto Hightower, and the Blacks, led by Queen Rhaenyra and her uncle-husband Daemon Targaryen. Season 2 left viewers on a bit of a cliffhanger with both sides amassing forces for a great battle(s). But it has been confirmed by showrunner Ryan Condal and leaked set photos that the first episode of Season 3 will begin withthe famous Battle of the Gullet—a brutal naval clash where the Blacks attempt to break the Greens' blockade of Dragonstone, leading to heavy losses on both sides.
Joplin Sibtain Is the Lord Of House Roxton
From Ferrix to Westeros
According toVariety, the latest star to land on Westeros is55-year-old English actor Joplin Sibtain, who plays Brasso in theStar WarsseriesAndor. He has been cast to play Ser “Bold” Jon Roxton, House Roxton’s headand staunch supporter of the Greens. Sibtain is among a wave of recent castings, including Barry Sloane as Ser Adrian Redfort and Tom Cullen as Ser Luthor Largent. Other notable additions since March include James Norton as Ormund Hightower, Tommy Flanagan as Roddy the Ruin, Peter Polycarpou as Lord Gaunt, and Dan Fogler as Ser Torrhen Manderly.
Sibtain’s casting aligns with a recent tease by Ryan Condal. Barely two weeks ago, Condal revealed the introduction ofthree new Valyrian steel swords, stopping short of giving details. In George R.R. Martin’sFire & Blood, the source material forHouse of the Dragon, Ser Jon Roxton wields the Valyrian steel sword Orphan-Maker, which he uses to great effect in the Battle of Honeywine and the Second Battle of Tumbleton. Since Ormund Hightower has already been cast—presumably with his Valyrian blade, Vigilance—it leaves only Ser William Royce with his Valyrian steel sword Lamentation to potentially complete the trio earlier teased by Condal.
Fans who admired Sibtain’s portrayal of the loyal and courageous Brasso inAndorSeasons 1 and 2will be thrilled to see him step into another powerful role. However, they should also brace themselves. Anyone familiar with Ser Jon Roxton’s fate in Westeros would know that it ends more brutally than Brasso’s heroic arc on Ferrix. Still, Sitbain’s migration from the industrial grit of Ferrix to the bloody battlefields of Westeros inHouse of the Dragonwould be fascinating to witness, especially since Jon Roxton’s hardened, martial spirit isn’t what Brasso fans are used to. As for Sibtain himself, it would be his most high-profile character yet since the days of playing Tarak Ital in aDoctor Whoepisode and voicing video game characters.
