Summary
Like most live service video games,Apex Legendshas collaborated with plenty of popular franchises over the years. Leading up to the launch ofFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth, for example, Respawn Entertainment released anApexLegendscrossover event themed entirely around the then-upcoming game. This update included some newFF7cosmetics, as well as a usable Buster Sword and a handful of expensive microtransactions. Before that,Apex Legendsalso collaborated with some non-video game properties. Back in 2021, Respawn added a few skins to the game that were inspired by clothing from the L.A.-based streetwear brand, Market Studios. In 2023, meanwhile, it held a Post Malone-themed crossover event inApexLegends.
In spite of all these unusual crossovers,Apex Legendshas not received a properStar Warscollaboration yet. Although there are a fewStar Wars-related cosmetics inApex Legends, such as a Pathfinder skin that was inspired byJedi: Fallen Order’s BD-1, Respawn Entertainment hasn’t released a full-blown event pertaining to the franchise.Star Warscollaborations are kind of a hot new trend right now; major live service titles likeFortniteandDestiny 2have announced new DLCs and content updates themed around the series. If Respawn Entertainment wantsApex Legendsto follow suit in this regard, then perhaps it should release a newStar Warscrossover event inspired by one of its upcoming games.
Respawn Should Add a Star Wars Zero Company Collab to Apex Legends
Star Wars Zero Company is a Turn-Based Strategy Game that’s Being Made by Respawn and Bit Reactor
Back in 2022, Respawn Entertainment revealed that it was working onan originalStar Warsstrategy gamein collaboration with Bit Reactor, a newly-established independent studio based in Maryland. This game, Respawn said, was being developed alongside a sequel toStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderand a first-person shooter set in theStar Warsuniverse. While theJedi: Fallen Ordersequel was eventually released a year later (under the nameStar Wars Jedi: Survivor), the unnamed FPS from Respawn was ultimately canceled. TheStar Warsstrategy game, meanwhile, went completely dark after its announcement; that is, until recently.
During theStar WarsCelebration event in Japan last month, Respawn Entertainment and Bit Reactor finally unveiled the project that they’re working on:a game calledStar Wars Zero Company. This title is a turn-based tactical RPG that’s inspired by theXCOMseries and is set during the Clone Wars, one of the most significant conflicts inStar Warslore.Star Wars Zero Companyis currently scheduled to launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC sometime in 2026, and it’s probably going to be the closest thing fans will get to a newXCOMgame for the foreseeable future.
Skins Modeled After the Protagonists of Star Wars Zero Company Would Fit Perfectly in an FPS Like Apex Legends
WhenStar Wars Zero Companyis released, Respawn Entertainment should hold a crossover event inApex Legendsto promote the game. Many of the lead characters inZero Company, like the disgraced Republic officer Hawks, wouldn’t look out of place at all ina first-person shooter likeApex, due to their gun-oriented combat styles. Plus, since both games are being developed by the same company, a collaboration like this would provide some much-needed brand synergy.
Since Respawn Entertainment has already released a couple ofStar Warsgames, it’s surprising that the company hasn’t done any crossover events like this withinApex: Legendsyet. It’s possible that Respawn thinks thatthe protagonist of itsStar Wars: Jedititles, Cal Kestis, wouldn’t serve as a suitable skin for characters in a first-person shooter, due to his use of a lightsaber instead of a gun. However, given that the company decided to add Post Malone-themed content toApexLegendsfor some reason, maybe Kestis-inspired skins in the game wouldn’t be that strange. Either way, sinceStar Wars Zero Company’s characters are largely gunslingers, this wouldn’t be an issue in a hypotheticalApex Legendscollaboration.
