Summary

Marvel Studios has already announced tons of superheroes joiningAvengers: Doomsday. One fan-favorite is noticeably missing, but they will likely be part of the film.

Avengers: Doomsdayis one of the biggest films from theMarvel Cinematic Universefor Phase Six. On June 28, 2025, Marvel Studios announced the cast of the anticipated MCU tentpole in a multi-hour livestream and among those confirmed to be part of the nextAvengersmovie are Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Vanessa Kirby (Susan Storm), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Tenoch Huerta (Namor),Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Thing) and Kelsey Grammer (Beast), Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom) and more. Fox’s originalX-Menstars Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) and James Marsden (Cyclops) are also part of the project. However, some popular MCU superheroes like Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man were not mentioned. Yet, Marvel Studios is on a deal to bring one of them into the film.

Cosmic Marvel shared an update aboutAvengers: Doomsday’s casting, citing movie insider and scooper Daniel Richtman. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the outlet claimed that Marvel Studios wants Spider-Man in the upcomingAvengersmovie. However, it reportedly “hasn’t closed a deal with Sony.” After a few hours, in another tweet still citing Richtman, Cosmic Marvel gave a promising update after Marvel reportedly struck a deal with Sony. However, the studio still needed to discuss “financial agreement” and “scheduling” with the young actor. Cosmic Marvel’s updated tweet read:

Marvel Studios is currently working out a deal with Tom Holland himself, not Sony.

Many Marvel fans were disappointed following the announcement ofAvengers: Doomsdayafter realizing that Spider-Man was not among them. They loved the webslinger so much and since he was part of the previousAvengersfilms, they were expecting to see him in the next one. Holland debuted in the MCU as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, inCaptain America: Civil War(2016). He also appeared inAvengers: Infinity War(2018) andAvengers: Endgame(2019), aside from starring in his three solo movies —Spider-Man: Homecoming(2017),Spider-Man: Far From Home(2019), andSpider-Man: No Way Home(2021). Spider-Man joiningDoomsdayis not surprising because Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige already said they “revealed many but not all,” hinting that some were left unannounced.

Marvel Studios wanting to include Spider-Man inAvengers: Doomsdayonly shows that they know what fans love. There’s no denying thatHolland’s Spideyhas a lot of supporters and this is evident in his successful three solo movies. In fact, they are getting Holland again to star in hisfourthSpider-Manmovie. Spider-Man’s deal with the MCU is a bit complicated because Sony controls the movie and Marvel can’t just use the character without their approval.

Tom Hardy, who played Venom, previously said he nearly shared the big screen with Holland’s Spider-Man. It would have been a huge treat toSpider-Manfans since the two characters have an established love-hate relationship in the comics. However, Hardy saidthe crossover didn’t happen due to “studio politics.“Since Sony owns both characters, Hardy was likely talking about an MCU project featuring Venom and Spider-Man. Fans may not get the Venom and Spider-Man film, but they will likely see Peter Parker inAvengers: Doomsdayand that’s a great treat too.
