Baldur’s Gate 3is notorious for the immense amount of detail and world building it has to offer. The game’s scope is so expansive that some players are still stumbling uponBaldur’s Gate 3’s little touches almost two years later. With the game’s Final Patch available, it’s unlikely that any major secrets will ever be added to the game, leaving players to explore the existing mysteries withinBaldur’s Gate 3.
Of course, just like in any classic game ofDungeons & Dragons, players will make allies and find new tools as they go on their adventure. The most obvious allies players will makeareBaldur’s Gate 3’s Origin NPCs, but even the most random NPCs can prove useful as players fight to defeat the Netherbrain. In particular, uncovering hidden summons is always a good idea for gamers playing an extended campaign.
Harvard Willoughby is a Unique Summon
Baldur’s Gate 3has two NPCs named Harvard Willoughby; one human and one sheep. Surprisingly, the animal version of Harvard Willoughby can be a surprisingly useful summonduring Act 3 of the game. But in order for Harvard Willoughby (Sheep) to be summoned to the Rivington Campsite, players must first fulfill a few conditions. Firstly, Harvard Willoughby (Human) must die. This Harvard Willoughby can be found performing and hosting the Laff Riot comedy show at the Elfsong Tavern. Players must also ring the bell in the Lower City Central Wall’s bell tower, located outside the entrance to the Szarr Palace. The bell located in the Open Hand Temple’s bell tower in Rivington must also be rung as well.These requirements can be fulfilled in any order, as long as Harvard Willoughby (Human) is dead prior to the second bell ringing.
Upon completion, a Mysterious Egg willappear at the Rivington Campsitein the Bird’s Nest. Interacting with this egg will drop Harvard Willoughby (Sheep) from the sky, though he is brought down by Feather Fall, and the player will likely be dealt bludgeoning damage by his fall. Harvard Willoughby will then follow the party member that interacted with the egg as a controllable summon. If killed, Harvard Willoughby will be dismissed and can be resummoned by interacting with the Mysterious Egg again.
Harvard Willoughby’s Stats
Harvard Willoughby’s attacks and abilities are surprisingly formidable for a sheep. His character sheet is also rather impressive,with a Strength of 18, a Dexterity of 14, and 42 HP. Immediately at the start of combat, Harvard Willoughby receives the Burning condition, though this condition is purely cosmetic as he has fire resistance. But combat is where Harvard Willoughby truly has his time to shine.
Harvard Willoughby’s Attacks and Abilities
Despite being a sheep, Harvard Willoughby can deal three spells and one cantrip. These incantations are Call Lightning, Entangle, Thorn Whip, and Wall of Thorns. Harvard Willoughby can also deal out an Unarmed Strike dealing 5 Bludgeoning damage. He also hasa few standard summon abilities, like Dash, Jump, Hide, and Disengage, while, like summons, being unable to Throw, Dip, Shove, Help, or use an Improvised Melee Weapon. What separates him from other summons is that he can use Consumables including Scrolls and Potions.
But Harvard Willoughby’s most interesting mechanic is not an ability that players can control. Each round, at the start of Harvard Willoughby’s turn, a random number from 0-27 is rolled and added to the round number. When the combined total reaches 30, Harvard Willoughby will explode, dealing fire damage to all nearby creaturessimilarly to Fireball. Despite Harvard Willoughby’s fire resistance, the sheep is disintegrated in the process. However, players that enjoy having Harvard Willoughby in their party needn’t fear this. As mentioned previously, players simply have to interact with the Mysterious Egg at the Rivington Campsite yet again to include this sheep in theirBaldur’s Gate 3party.
