Summary

When it comes to allocating skill points inClair Obscur: Expedition 33, it is important to have a good understanding of which stats offer what kinds of bonuses in battle and how best to level up each individual character. The cast is pretty diverse in their capabilities, and although there are certainly some party members that are stronger than others, there is no reason why players can’t choose whichever three they want and still find success.

The build diversity is pretty ridiculous, as certain characters can be transformed from supportive healers into glass canons that one-shot everything in their path. Skill allocation really matters, especially early on when the points are limited, and although there are means to refund them and try again, it’s nice to get it right the first time and be able to fully utilize the full range of power that each character affords. Of course, each weapon comes with unique scaling types that affect which stats do what in a fight, but overall, certain stats do benefit party members more than others.

Maelle

Stylish Skills And A Calculated Playstyle

Maelle is among the highest damage dealers inClair Obscur: Expedition 33, and in order to fully capitalize on this, players will want to focus a lot of their stat points on the main damage source, being might. It gives her a significant burst, and when combined withPictos that let Maelle start in or maintain Virtuoso Stance, she can very quickly output incredible damage without the enemy even getting to respond.

Aside from raw damage, it is nice to have some extra speed, whether from Agility or Luck, the latter of which will also raise the character’s damage output by a significant amount once the crit percentage is high enough to make a difference. Having some extra vitality and defense can be nice, but if the player is good enough at dodging and really wants to make the most of Maelle, damage is the way to go.

Lune

Mage Or Healer, She Really Can Do It All

Lune is a pretty versatile character that can be built in a variety of ways, some offensive and some heavy on the defense. For the most part, her skills rely on a bit of build-up and staying power to really make the most of them, either because the player needs to build up the elemental stacks or to stay alive to fully utilize the healing output and resurrection potential that Lune has in her kit.

For the supportive option, the obvious choice is to go heavily into defense and vitality, raising Lune’s chances of survival if the player misses a parry and letting her cast life-saving skills that can carry fights alone. Agility is also a nice stat to have, as being able to play quicker lets the player build up the secondary effects faster and can mean that the enemy is constantly burning and also that the team is always full HP.

Sciel

Takes Time To Build Up, But The Burst Is Incredible

Sciel isa pretty interesting party member, as her entire playstyle relies on stalling and building up Foretell on the enemies to then unleash a devastating attack all in one go. What really benefits this is both having a higher damage output from Might to make the wait worth it and to be able to build up those stacks far quicker with a few extra turns than normal.

The ability to cast lots of skills, enter Twilight, and finally pull off the execution that the previous turns had been building all rides on speed, so if the player isn’t quick enough, there isn’t a great deal of incentive to even have Sciel in the party. That said, with a high enough Might and a healthy amount of speed, the card-thrower can become quite a threat even later in the game.

Monoco

Strange, Hilarious, And Powerful

Monoco has quickly become a fan favorite for his unconventional playstyle and humorous personality. Part of what makes him so unique is the Bestial Wheel, which relies on careful skill usage to swap between forms and fully benefit fromthe full power of his abilities. In order to achieve this in the best way possible, both speed and defense play a big role in ensuring the player can reliably switch to the correct form and unlock the main power of the skills.

He doesn’t have the highest damage output when compared to some of the other party members, but what he lacks in burst, he more than makes up for in flexibility and utility, providing some very helpful buffs to the team and putting up a good fight against all kinds of enemies. He can take some getting used to, but he has some serious power with a bit of extra speed and enough time to fully cycle through his wheel.

Verso/Gustave

Meter Management And Crazy Burst

Two sides to the same coin, Verso and Gustave share a lot in common regarding which stats are the best choices and how to make use of their skills in the most effective way. For one, time is everything when building up the gauntlet/perfection meter, and being able to cast multiple times or at least keep up with the onslaught of attacks makes maintaining it very easy.

It also helps that Verso has one of the highest potential damage outputs of any character, so, of course, statting into Might is the perfect choice for acquiring those ridiculous damage numbers later on and ensuring that he can really show off those skills to their highest potential. Overall, speed and damage become the player’s best friends here, andno enemy can stand in their wayonce those stats start climbing.
