Summary
The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredgives players a lot of choices early on. First, there are ten races to choose from, all of which have specific talents. There are thirteen Birthsigns and twenty-one classes to choose from, giving players an almost infinite amount of combos for creating their character between race, Birthsigns, and class.
For example, a Breton is a human character whoexcels in magical potential, specifically with summoning creatures like skeletons or healing themselves. They also have resistance to magic cast by others. So, what Birthsigns would be good for a Breton then if they wish to become some sort of Mage class inThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered?
7The Apprentice
More Magicka But More Damage Too
The Apprentice is a double-edged sword for Bretons who want to become a Mage class or at least use more spells during combat. To use spells, players need Magicka, which is the blue meter that drains after spell use, similar to MP inRPGs likeFinal Fantasy.
The Apprentice can increase Magicka reserves greatly, but it will cause players to take more magical damage in return. For other races, this may be a problem, but Bretons have a natural resistance to magic, which sort of cancels out the downsides of The Apprentice inThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.
6The Atronach
Become A Magicka Sponge
The Atronach is another Birthsign that comes with caveats, but is also great if players want to game the system. First off, Magicka regenerates naturally if players don’t use spells, but it’s a slow process unless players have some sort of armor or skill in place that can speed it up. The Atronach gets rid of the player’s ability to regenerate, but with the advantage of having a large chance to absorb spells in return.
Under this Birthsign, players will have to stock up on Magicka restorative potions, which shouldn’t be hard if they get into crafting or exploring crypts, of which there are plenty inThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, although players may need to stock up on lockpickstoo. Also, natural Magicka reserves will be increased with The Apprentice, which helps balance things out more.
5The Lover
A Quick Paralyzing Kiss
There are a lot of Birthsigns inThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredthat will boost stats, and then there are Birthsigns that will grant powerful and unique spells. The Lover is one of the latter examples, as players can cast Lover’s Kiss with it.
This spell can only be used once per day, and it can paralyze nearly any enemy. A paralyzed opponent will naturally be unable to stop attacks, although if there are other enemies around, then players may still be at a disadvantage. Downing one enemy with paralysis could be good for escaping a sticky situation, too, so players will just have to experiment.
4The Mage
Boost Magicka Reserves
Bretons are naturally gifted summoners and healers in the game, but that doesn’t mean players are required to choose one of the seven Mage options in the game when creating a Breton character. If players do want to turn their Breton into a Mage, though, The Mage Birthsign is an obvious choice.
It can increase the Magicka pool like The Apprentice, but there are no catches. A Breton-based Mage could become something akin to aNecromancer in other RPGsif players use spells likeSummon GhostorSummon Skeleton. With minions, players can hang back safely and watch chaos ensue.
3The Shadow
Gain The Power Of Invisibility
The Shadow, not to be confused with the Alec Baldwin movie from the 90s, is a Birthsign inThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredfor players who like sneaking around. Moonshadow is a powerful spell that players can use once a day, like Lover’s Kiss.
Moonshadow can turn players invisible for a minute, aiding in sneaking past enemies or stealing. If players want to turn their Breton into one of the rogue-like classes withinThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, then they should also consider joining the Thieves Guild.
2The Thief
Boost Agility, Speed, And Luck
The Thief is a more blatant way for players to craft their Breton into a rogue-like class. It can boost three stats, which are important for those who wish to lurk in the shadows like an assassin by killing enemies with ease or stealing coin like in aclassic RPG thief.
Agility can increase Fatigue and boost damage done by weapons like daggers, short swords, and bows.Luck is a mysterious stat in RPGsthat can do everything from increasing critical hits to finding rare loot, and those are certainly things that can help a shadowy character. Speed just helps with how fast players can run, which is an attribute any class can take advantage of.
1The Tower
Unlock Doors And Reflect Magic
Finally, The Tower is another great Birthsign for the thief-happy players out there, thanks to one attached spell at least. Tower Key can unlock barriers of Average strength, which will help negate the need for lock picks in most early situations inThe Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered.
Tower Warden is the other attached skill, and it can reflect spells. It’s not the reason to go under The Tower Birthsign since Bretons already have a resistance to spells, but players shouldn’t dismiss it entirely, especially if they are in areas with a high number of mages. For example, an early area around Weynon Priory called the Yellow Tick Cave is full of spell casters.
