The Dark Brotherhood follows Sithis, sticking to shadows to assassinate targets for infamy and gold. It’s no surprise that such a faction deep-rooted in murder and stealth would serve such a fun thread of quests, andOblivion Remasteredhighlights the genius of the game through its characters, quest design, and targets that must be eradicated for the Night Mother and Sithis.
Throughout the plethora of Dark Brotherhood quests inOblivion Remastered, some are more memorable than others. While all of them offer a great time to relish in shadow and assassination, there are some Dark Brotherhood quests that are always fun to replay, and relish in story and design.
6The Lonely Wanderer
Find and Kill a Skooma Addicted High Elf
The Lonely Wanderer requires players to find Faelian, a High Elf in the Imperial City, who must be destroyed. Faelian’s location in the Imperial City is a mystery, and players must investigate the whereabouts of this High Elf if they are to complete their mission. Luckily for them, this lonely wanderer has a bad habit that he can’t break, and that habit iseveryone’s favorite Cyrodiil drug, Skooma.
Players will find Faelian inside Lorkmir’s House, high as a kite on Skooma and completely ignorant of the player’s conversation attempts. While Faelian is an interesting kill that doesn’t serve much outside the quest itself, it’s still interesting to see the effects drugs have on characters, and players can even find Lorkmir’s corpse in the basement, which shows a potential squabble over Skooma.
5Permanent Retirement
Get Revenge on Adamus Phillida by Putting Him to Rest Forever
Adamus Phillida is a retired Imperial Legion officer and someone who has been a thorn in the Dark Brotherhood’s side for years. Adamus Phillida has often tried to stop the Dark Brotherhood, but in his retirement, it’s time to get revenge. Players are tasked with sending a message to Imperial forces by finding and killing Adamus Phillida in his most intimate moments, which is rather easily achieved.
Players can use a bow with the Rose of Sithisarrow to assassinateAdamus Phillida, but the catch is that the arrow must be fired with Adamus Phillida is not wearing armor. Luckily, Adamus Phillida loves to go for a swim, which makes for a pretty pathetic death for a beloved Imperial officer, but the quest doesn’t stop there. Players now must take Adamus' finger and place it in the desk of an Imperial Office, to showcase how important it is to never interfere with Dark Brotherhood affairs.
4The Assassinated Man
Fake a Man’s Death for the Dark Brotherhood
While the Dark Brotherhood is supposed to kill targets, The Assassinated Man makes for a nice change of pace, since players are tasked withfaking a murderinstead. It’s a pretty short quest, but it’s a fun one to complete since it requires players to meet Francois Motierre and use the Languorwine Blade to attack him, which will poison him and keep him in a suspended state to fake his death so that debtors cannot come for him.
Once the debtor realizes Francois has been killed by a Dark Brotherhood Assassin, players are tasked with resurrecting Francois in a family crypt, only to discover that this offends his ancestors, which summons zombies. It’s a quirky mission that doesn’t feel quite murderous for the Dark Brotherhood, which is why it’s so fun.
3The Purification
Kill Old Friends and Cleanse the Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary
The man who recruited players into the Dark Brotherhood, Lucien Lachance, has tasked players with a rather cruel undertaking, but one that will prove their loyalty to Sithis. Players must kill the entire Dark Brotherhood faction in Cheydinhal’s Sanctuary. It’s heartbreaking, considering they are all so nice, but the Dark Brotherhood doesn’tdeal with nice things; they deal in murder and fear, which is why they have to go.
The Purification has some pretty tragic deaths that the player must be responsible for, but it can also be pretty funny to see these characters greet the player with a smile and a warm welcome, only to find a knife in their backs.
2Scheduled for Execution
Take Revenge on a Hostile Dark Elf in the Imperial Prison
When players started their journey all those days or weeks ago in an Imperial Prison, they might remember a rather crude and evil Dark Elf who spoke harshly and with racist rhetoric regarding their race. This Dark Elf, Valen Dreth, has a hit out on him, and it’s time for players to fulfill the contract and get a bit of fun in for themselves by murdering a man who was pretty mean to them.
Scheduled for Execution isn’t just fun because of the revenge players can get on Valen Dreth, but for how itcalls back to the first dayplayers spend inOblivion Remastered,as they will be breaking back into the Imperial Prison, and they will even get to see a memorial for the Emperor.
1Whodunit?
Carefully Murder House Party Guests to Indulge in Mystery
Players are tasked with heading to Skingrad, where inside Summitmist Manor, they will find a party waiting for them. The party inside contains 5 guests, all of whom are targets of the Dark Brotherhood that must be killed. These civilians are locked in the house with a killer, yet they have no idea what fate awaits them. Of course, players can just brutally murder them all as soon as the door closes behind them, but where’s the fun in that?
Players can speak with the guests and learn information about each of them. Desires, weaknesses, and strengths, players can learn it all through conversation. Players can experiment with these guests, tricking them into hating and fighting each other, or simply separating them and taking them off,one by one.
