Cyrodiil is filled with exciting easter eggs and references to other pieces of pop culture, and withOblivion Remasteredbeing involved heavily in the pop culture scene from 2006’s original, there are some easter eggs and references that players might love to find and discover for themselves.
From famous musical artists, internet memes, and pop culture references from a galaxy far, far away, many easter eggs inOblivion Remasteredhavebeen brought back in this epic title from The Elder Scrolls series.
8Elvis’ Blue Suede Shoes
One of Elvis’s most Iconic Tracks Features as a Wearable Item
There aren’t many clothing items that are references to other pieces of pop culture, but one of the more glaring and obvious ones is the Blue Suede Shoesfound on displayin the Divine Elegance store. These shoes are quite literally named Blue Suede Shoes, which is the title of one of Elvis Presley’s most popular songs.
This 1956 classic song is the opening for his debut album, and it’s clear that someone on the developer team likes Elvis enough that they feature his shoes on display in a store. While players cannot sing his songs or even dance like him, they can at least wear his shoes.
7Potion Seller, Give Me Your Strongest Potions
This Console Command is Too Strong for You, Traveler
PC players can enjoy a plethora of console commands, with one of the longest and hilarious of the bunch being that of Altar.Player.PotionSellerGiveMeYourStrongestPotions. For players who type this console command in, they will be rewarded with incredible strength that allows them to punch NPCs and send them flying through the air with an epic ragdoll.
The console command itself is in reference to a classic YouTube video from Justin Kuritzkes, which is a skit between a knight and a man who sells potions. It’s a hilarious classic that’s amassed over 12 million views on YouTube, and it’s great to see it feature asa secret inOblivion Remastered.
6Alban Corinis, AKA, Todd Howard
The Secret Todd Howard Testing Room
For the players who are on PC, they can access console commands and initiate the command:coc toddtest. Doing so will teleport them to faraway lands, where inside a house, they will find an NPC named Alban Corinis. This is a test NPC, and players who converse with him will hear random dialogue that is dependent on the mood that players have selected, yet there’s something different about this one.
Instead of being one of the regular voices for the NPCs, this NPC is voiced by none other than the iconic Todd Howard, who features as a test voice. While this NPC will never be found in Cyrodiil, it’s nice that this area has been remastered and kept in, so players can talk to the legend himself.
5The Fourth-Wall-Breaking Khajit
M’aiq the Liar Doesn’t Like Forum Suggestions
M’aiq the Liar is a recurring character in The Elder Scrolls series, and it seems he has returned inOblivion Remasteredto offer some more insults and comments from the developers through fourth-wall-breaking dialogue. It’s all light-hearted jests, and M’aiq the Liar will not lie to players, but instead offer his thoughts on suggestions made by the community about features he doesn’t want in the game he is forced to roam in.
M’aiq the Liar has plenty of phrases that hark back to old forum posts, where he will make fun of the readers by insulting them. Whether it’s calling people foolish in response to players wanting to throw weapons, or defending the character model changes ofother racesfromMorrowind, M’aiq the Liar has a lot to say.
4Anakin Skywalker
The Crispy Remains of a Jedi Turned Sith
It’s no surprise thatOblivion Remasteredwould feature aStar Warseaster egg. After all,The Revenge of the SithandOblivion’s release were only a year apart. As such, players can visit Kvatch and enter into the Oblivion Gate found here, where, stepping forward, players will discover a charred corpse with just an arm left, reaching out to escape the lava that burns at cut-off legs.
The corpse and the pose are striking and extremely reminiscent of Anakin Skywalker after Obi-Wan bested him on Mustafar. Where Anakin had an arm and both legs removed, he was forced to drag himself out of the flames, but for this poor soul in Oblivion, it seems he didn’t have the resolve of the Chosen One.
3Fight Club
Don’t Talk About the Crucible’s Fight Club
While a more obvious reference toFight Clubcan be found in the Fighters Guild across Cyrodiil’s holds, more obscure and secret ones allude to the first two rules of Fight Club: Do not talk about Fight Club. There are a few spots where players can find secret fighting clubs, and these cute homages to 1999’sFight Clubmovie are fun to witness, but don’t try tointervene with the battleat hand.
Venturing to the Crucible at night will see different NPCs battle it out each night, and on their corpses, players can discover their secret club with the Liturgy of the Duelists note, which says:Speak not of the Duelists, speak only of the duel.
2The Throat of the World
The Tallest Mountain in Skyrim Makes an Appearance
Found in the province of Skyrim is the Throat of the World, the mountain covered in snow that reaches the skies, and something that players venture to as the Dragonborn. However, the originalObliviondidn’t predict the need for the Throat of the World back in 2006, 5 years beforeSkyrim’s release. Which is whyOblivion Remastereddoes well to revamp the old one.
While the Throat of the World does appear in the originalOblivion, it wasn’t nearly as tall andintimidating as it was inOblivion Remastered, further tying the games together. The Throat of the World is a staple of Skyrim’s harsh environment, and the tallest mountain in Tamriel deserves respect.
1Voice Acting Bloopers
Tandilwe Would Like to Try That One Again
Suppose players are to complete the Misdirection quest from the Thieves Guild questline. In that case, they will have successfully aided in an epic heist across the Imperial City involving breaking into the Arcane University, Imperial Legion Compound, and the Temple – all in the same night! As such, Tandilwe, found in the Temple of the One, will react to this if players speak with her, but there’s a catch.
Tandilwe breaks the fourth wall, and this voice acting blooper remains present inOblivion Remastered, along with other quirky examples of dialogue in the original. Tandilwe will repeat her dialogue, and players can hear “Wait a minute, let me do that one again.” From the voice performer.
