Summary
Oblivion Remasteredisn’t the kind of RPG where the main character forms an adventuring party, but players can recruit followers and join some factions and guilds, so they don’t have to work alone. Some guilds are better for a certain type of character, such as magic users versus physical damage dealers, while others are popular for any build or class.
It’s often as easy as talking to the right person to join a guild, but that’s not always the case. Exclusive or secretive factions and guilds will have more complicated requirements for membership, such as finishing a quest, solving a riddle, or finding a secret place.
7Mythic Dawn
For Double Agents Or The Morally Dubious
It’s a unique choice for players who want to do something different or experience the game from the antagonist’s side. The Mythic Dawn is the faction led by High Elf sorcerer Mankar Camoran, and they’re the ones responsible for setting the game in motion when they assassinate the emperor.
If players want to finish the main questline, this isn’t recommended, but players can opt to join the faction temporarily as one way of infiltrating the inner sanctum. They’ll either be given the rank of Initiate or Acolyte (if players kill Jeelius) at this point and can use the beds, storage, and other accessories in the Mythic Dawn’s secret hideout.
6Order Of The Dragon
All Hail The Champion Of Cyrodil
Founded by Tiber Septim, the Order of the Dragon has only had five previous heroes who have carried the title Champion of Cyrodiil, and the protagonist of Oblivion becomes the sixth. When the main quest is complete and Cyrodiil has been delivered from the power of Mehrunes Dagon, High Chancellor Ocato will anoint the player with their new title, making them a high-ranking member of Cyrodiil’s most sacred Order.
Unlike other factions and guilds, there’s little to offer in the way of trainingor the camaraderie of othermembers. However, perks include access to the Imperial Armory and a full set of Imperial Dragon Armor.
5Fighters Guild
Every Player’s First
It’s called the Fighters Guild, but it welcomes any adventurer and not just hack-and-slash,blade-and-sword adventurers. Even those of the roguish or magical persuasion would find membership handy for the better selection of weapons, training opportunities, and a place to rest and sleep for free.
There are Fighters Guilds in almost every city, with Kvatch and the Imperial City being the exceptions, but only the ones in Anvil, Cheydinhal, and Chorrol take recruits. Other than the convenience, the Fighters Guild is where the player can listen to some rumors, take some quests, and pick up a few leads for others.
4Mages Guild
Not Just For Magic Users
Joining the Mages Guild is just as easy as joining the Fighters Guild, and even those who aren’t magic users should consider networking with their friendly neighborhood magic users just for the resources and connections. There are guild halls in Skingrad, Chorrol, Leyawiin, Bravil, Skingrad, Cheydinhal, and Bruma, and any of them can accept the player as a member.
Items, training, rest, and food are all available here at low prices, including a guild member who sells potions, scrolls, and alchemical ingredientsand an enchanter who recharges magical items. Other perks are complimentary, like storage or a bed, and there are plenty of tasks, quests, and adventures offered by various members.
3Thieves Guild
Practice The Art Of Stealth
It’s more difficult to join the Thieves Guild because it’s a more clandestine organization, but that’s part of what makes it more interesting. Characters that have already made a name for themselves as thieves can attract the attention of the guild by raising their bounty and getting caught, but anyone can read a poster or hear a rumor about the Grey Fox.
Joining the Thieves Guild gives the player access to fences, equipment, training, and a Doyen to give them quests and advance their rank. Members have to adhere to a set of strict rules, which include not stealing from other guild members or poor people, and not killing anyone, because other guilds specialize in chaos and bloodshed.
2The Blades
Protect The Imperial Family
This is the easiest guild in the game to join, provided the player finishes the tutorial and delivers the lost heir to the throne, Martin Septim, to the safety of Cloud Ruler Temple. Upon arriving, Jauffre offers the player membership, and even if they refuse, they can return and acceptat another time, provided that Jauffre’s disposition toward the character is the same.
Being a Blade means a free mount, use of virtually any weapons and gear in the Temple, which includes books and beds, and the gift of an Akaviri Katana. It’s a nice boost to a new character fresh off the tutorial, and there aren’t any other tasks to complete to access all the resources.
1Dark Brotherhood
Welcome Home
It’s not exactly that simple, but to make a long story short, committing a murder is the way to trigger the questline that gives the player the option of joining one of Tamriel’s most decretive, deadly, and powerful guilds. Even if there wasn’t some amazing gear and deadly weapons to be had, the lore and legend of this guild alone make the trouble of joining them worth it.
After the character kills someone, they’ll get a note that says a mysterious entity is watching them, and the next time they sleep in a safe place, they’ll be approached by the Speaker of the Dark Brotherhood, Lucien Lachance. Characters of a more lawful mindset might kill Lucien, but be warned, this makes it impossible to join the guild.
