Cyrodiil is filled with secrets, so it’s no surprise that the bastion of Tamriel, the Imperial City, holds an immense amount of discoveries for players to find inOblivion Remastered. Whether it’s free goodies, secret lore, or getting lost in an adventure, there are quite a few events that players should look for the next time they enter this wondrous city of civilization.
While the more prominent and dangerous secrets inOblivion Remasteredare found in the expansive world outside of the Imperial City’s walls, there are still some things that players are going to want to discover, whether it’s their first or hundredth time visiting the city.
7The Thieves Guild Recruit
Join the Thieves Guild’s Secret Club at Night
Only in the Imperial City’s Waterfront District will players be able to join the Thieves Guild, where Armand Christophe waits for players in the slum’s garden area at midnight every night. Some players might be struggling to join the Thieves Guild, and others might not even know that this merry band of thieves exists rightunder the noses of the Imperial Guards.
While the hunt for the Gray Fox continues, players can at least begin to work for him by joining the Thieves Guild in the Waterfront District, so long as they are able to complete the task that is asked of them by Armand Christophe.
6An Unexpected Voyage
Snooze on a Boat and Wake Up in an Ocean Heist
If players head to the Bloated Float shipin the Waterfront District, then they will be able to venture inside and speak with Ormil, the owner. If players pay for a room here for 10 gold and then go to sleep, they will wake up not in the Imperial City, but adrift in the middle of the ocean. Sleeping in this bed starts a rather fun quest that players may have never seen before.
Not only will players be in for a fun time, but they will get the Blackwater Blade, a great sword for players just starting out, since it can Absorb Fatigue and paralyze enemies. It’s always great to find secret quests, and this is one of the best ones to find.
5The Armored Old Nag
A Free and Armored Horse for Players to Take
Upon arriving at the Imperial City, players are going to have just the clothes on their backs and the rusted weapons that they found within the Imperial City Prison. Thankfully, there’s a quick way to get something most players might have ignored, which isa horse that allows them to travel aroundfar quicker than their boots ever could. Players can actually get a horse for free without having to spend unnecessary gold or commit to robbery.
If players exit the Imperial City and head to the Chestnut Handy Stables just outside, they can enter the building and speak with Snak gra-Bura, who, if players inquire about horse armor, will provide players with the Armored Old Nag completely free of charge. It’s a decent horse and a secret one that most players might have never seen.
4An Extensive Sewer System Filled with Vampires
Vampires Explore Sewers During the Day to Get Around
While players made their escape out of the Imperial Prison through the sewers, it seems as if there is a whole network of underground caverns that connects the entire Imperial City. As such, it’s always worth exploring the sewers of the Imperial Cityin search of enemies, loot, and smugglersthat might be in the midst of a drug-running operation.
One of the biggest reveals found within the Imperial City Sewers is the vampire nests within, allowing players the risk of infection tobecome a vampirethemselves. While there isn’t much reward with the vampires, it’s still cool to see that they lurk in the sewers during the day to get around the city and wait for safe passage at night.
3The Bands of Kwang Lao
Secret Wrist Bands to Increase Hand-to-Hand Damage
Located in the Arena District of the Imperial City are two brawlers who are in a constant spar, Branwen and Saliith. Between the two fighters is a bunch of crates and chests, and one of them has a Very Hard lockpick associated with it that players might want to try to break into with enough lockpicks of their own, since it contains some prettydecent early-game loot.
Within the chest, players will be able to grab the Bands of Kwang Lao, gauntlets which will fortify and increase the Hand-to-Hand skill of the player by 20 points. This is great for brawlers who just want to punch everyone and everything, and isa secret that some might have missedfor their playthroughs.
2The Imperial Palace’s Secrets
Giant Furniture and the Elder Scroll Itself
Within the Imperial Palace, players can find all sorts of secrets, but most of them will be behind locked doorsattributed to the Thieves Guildquestline with the Gray Fox’s final quest, the Ultimate Heist. Within this mission, players can venture to the basement to discover an assortment of odd trinkets that the Imperial Guards have confiscated, including a chair and a club that is way too big for anyone to sit in or wield.
Even in the upper areas of the Imperial Palace, players will discover the blind moth monks and their guarded treasure, the Elder Scroll. While it’s a secret that can only be seen and held during the Ultimate Heist mission, it’s worth mentioning for those who want to see it for themselves.
1The Grand Champion’s True Identity
Discover the Origin of the Gray Prince
Players who have joined the Arena and become gladiators can rise through the ranks and speak to the Grand Champion, Agronak gro-Malog. Speaking with this pale orc will see him task players with discovering more surrounding the origins of his noble birth, which will take them out of the Imperial City and into a withered cave where they will discover a journal that reveals his origins as a half-vampire.
While the mission itself isn’t set in the Imperial City, it can be obtained and completed within, and the reveal is shocking as it turns poor Agronak into a suicidal orc who begs for death. Once players reach the final match to be Grand Champion, Agronak will stand there and wait to die instead of fighting back.
