Summary
My Hero Academiafeatures some verypowerful heroesand creative powers. It is set in a world where a large percentage of the world has a quirk, and the ones with the most powerful quirks go to prestigious schools to hone their quirk and use it for the good of the world.
However, there is an underrated element in the seamlessness of the heroes' candidates’ work, and that is the Department of Support, who create support items that the hero uses. They have, over the course of the story, come up with some really cool things, some of which should be highlighted.
User
Tenya Ida
Mei Hatsume is the most creative inventor in all of UA and is the creator of much of the equipment that her colleagues in the hero courses use. One of her many inventions was the Auto Balancers, which were primarily used by Tenya Ida.
They were made to help support the stability of the wearer. They were especially useful for Ida,whose quirk, Engine, meant that he could move at really fast speeds, and this also meant that he could easily lose balance. The Auto Balancers can detect what the wearer wants to do and help them, improving maneuverability, and can even eject air to reposition to the user and ensure they don’t fall.
Yuga Aoyama
Yuga Aoyama is one of those characters who initially seemed nonsensical at the beginning of the story but turned out to be a pivotal piece in the overall victory for the heroes. His quirk, Navel Laser, is exactly that— a quirk that allows him to shoot lasers from his navel.
But the use of his quirk also meant he got a stomach ache after use. So, the creation of his battle suit, which had goggles to help protect Aoyama from the light of his lasers, an emitter which helped him put out his lasers from other parts of his body, and a belt that helped regulate the outflow of his laser, was a great benefit to him.
Reduces Wearer’s Speed And Stamina
UA Teachers
Another creation from Mei Hatsume, the High Density Weights are simple-looking bracelets that are a training tool. They work to increase the load on the wearer to force them to exert themselves more and reduce their stamina.
It was particularly helpful to theUA teacherswhen they had to fight the hero students during their final exams. The weights helped reduce the teachers’ speed and stamina, which leveled the playing field and enabled the teachers to properly assess their students in combat.
Katsuki Bakugo
Katsuki Bakugo is one of the strongest characters fromClass 1-A in UA Academy. His quirk, explosion, lets him make use of his nitroglycerin-like sweat to create explosions. With such an explosive force, he was already pretty dangerous, but his Grenadier Bracers, made by an unknown character, really elevated his abilities.
The bracers not only protected Bakugo from blasts, but also featured storage space for his nitroglycerin-like sweat, meaning that the sweat he emitted in battle wasn’t wasted and could be used to vary the strength and his explosions. With these many options, Bakugo became a powerful adversary.
Hitoshi Shinso
Hitoshi Shinso was once a student of the Department of General Education. This was the course where people who had no quirks, or non-combat quirks, usually gathered. He was able to make theleap to the hero coursethanks to the uniqueness of his quirk, Brainwashing.
His quirk allowed him to force his opponents to do whatever he said. But what really made it useful in combat was the Artificial Vocal Chords, which could mimic the voice of others to compel them to answer and fall into his brainwashing. Thanks to the invention, he could fulfil his dream of becoming a hero.
Shota Aizawa
Shota Aizawa is one of the coolest teachers from My Hero Academia. Not only can he erase the quirk of a hero or villain just by keeping his eyes on them, but he is also no liability on the battlefield and is able to scrap and fight with the very best of them.
This is mostly due to his support tool, the binding cloth. It is a scarf made from a special alloy of steel wire and woven carbon nanofibers. This makes it quite durable and can easily restrain individuals. Hitoshi Shinso would also make use of the cloth and it was able to make him a more versatile hero and fighter.
Denki Kaminari
Denki Kaminari’s quirk was one of those that had a drawback. In his case, his brain short-circuits, leaving him useless for a while if he overexerts himself. His power was also unstable and could affect everyone around him, friend or foe.
But thanks to Powerloader and Mei Hatsume, they created the Sharpshooting Gear, which enabled Denki to properly aim his quirk at specific targets without compromising any of his allies. This was an incredibly useful item that made Denki a lot more viable in the many battles he fought.
Izuku Midoriya
For a large chunk of theMy Hero Academiastory, the main protagonist,Izuku Midoriya, could never really fight at full strength due to various reasons. One of those was the explosiveness of his power and the comparative fragility of his body. This is why support items were so important for him.
One of his most impactful was the Air Force Gloves, also made by Mei Hatsume. They were able to suppress the damage taken by Izuku’s hands and were also able to shoot out pressurized wind from his shoot style fighting technique. The gloves will eventually be destroyed when fighting Overhaul, but he gets new and improved ones later in the series.
