Due to how uncommon they are, when tall girls appear in anime, it is always notable, and highlighting some of them is a good idea to help people who might want to see shows with such characters. In this instance, a tall female character is one that is about 5 feet 8 inches or taller.
Spoiler Warning: Some minor and major story moments will be touched on for the entries on this list.
Sakaki is one of the main characters from the gag anime,Azumanga Daiou. When placed alongside the many other strange characters from the show, she seems positively normal and also adds beauty and athleticism to her list of strong points.
Sakaki is also shy and is a huge cat lover. Due to her tendency to be more quiet, she is sometimes thought to be scary and tough, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Standing at 5’8”, she is pretty tall for a Japanese schoolgirl.

Air Masteris not exactly an anime classic; for many, the2003 animeisn’t one they remember. But, few can forget the absolute unit that was the protagonist, Maki Aikawa. Maki towers over others at 6 feet tall, and with agility gained from her days as a gymnast, she is a very impressive character.
Maki was all about street fights, and she was also very strong, with her gymnast training giving her an advantage. She fought both men and women and was a great example of a girl being able to get down in a fight with anyone.
Ayaka Kagari is considered the princess of her school, Tougetsu Academy, and she is awitch with extraordinary abilities. She is also attached to the male lead, Honoka, whom she protects from enemies, as she wants him to live a happy life.
The dynamic she shares with Honoka is played for laughs inWitch Craft Works, and Honoka is usually portrayed as the damsel in distress, which is something of a subversion of a trope. Ayaka is one of themost stoic characters found in anime, which seems to be a common theme with tall girls in anime.
Kohiruimaki Karen is one of the most impressively written characters from theSword Art Onlineseries, and seeing as she appears in a spinoff title, this might suggest why she feels so different. Karen is a tall girl, standing at over 6 feet, which makes her standout in any room she is in.
Interestingly, her height also caused her to have a complex about it, and that was what led her to create a really short avatar in the game world. She is a fascinating character and a study into how people might want to be someone else when they feel uncomfortable in their own skin.
Milly Thompson is a Bernardelli insurance agent and one of the side characters inTrigun. The incredibly tall agent is also kind-hearted and has a large family she constantly writes to. Her height is particularly brought into sharp focus when she stands beside Meryl.
She is a skillful character — if a little ditzy. But, it does seem Milly might have some secret intelligence, which is suggested in her proficiency in chess and how she was more clued in to Vash’s true identity even before Meryl. She’s adorable and just a sweetheart in the show.
Boa Hancock hated all men until she eventually met and fell in love with Luffy. She had good reason after being kidnapped as a child before she gained her abilities (to turn things into stone). Her love for Luffy is usually played for laughs, and it sometimes distracts from how amazing a character she is.
She was the onlyfemale warlord, and without her, Luffy’s journey might have come to an end as she was instrumental in a lot of major points for Luffy. She is also quite tall, which makes her signature move of looking down on people while bending backwards even more hilarious.
Noi is the other half of a 2-person squad that also has her partner, Shin. She works as a cleaner for En and is a character that fits in well with the brutal world ofDorohedoro. Noi uses healing magic, which means she barely takes care to protect herself in an attack.
Noi’s carefree and friendly nature belies hercapacity for violence, and she is one of the more likable and charming characters in Dorohedoro. Her sibling-like relationship with Shin, whom she respects a lot, is fascinating to watch. She and Shin will sometimes compete to see who can kill the most.
Kanamori Sayaka, along with her friends, wants to animate things and create art that is truly special. She is the tallest of the bunch at 5’11”, and she is also the shrewdest of the bunch — even when it is suggested that she comes from money.
Her manipulative tactics and ability to make things work as long as it propels her ambitions has endeared her to many fans. Sayaka is street smart and experienced thanks to a childhood where she helped with her relatives’ shop. Without her, the dreams of the other girls would certainly not have come true.
Diane is the serpent’s sin of envy in7 Deadly Sinsand is the next potential ruler of the giant clan. Standing at about 30 feet, she is as tall as they come. She is fiercely loyal to her crew and is protective of them, wielding her sacred weapon with deadly effectiveness.
Her personality is at odds with her size, and she is refreshingly girly even with her immense strength. She is also married to King, the shortest of the sins and the King of Fairy kingdom.
Ozen was a striking character when she was first introduced inMade In Abyss. Impossibly tall, cold, and implacable, Ozen didn’t really feel like a hero or villain when she first met Riko and Reg.
As a white whistle, she has experienced a lot and is renown for her strength. Behind her cold demeanor, it is shown that she did care a lot for Lyza, Riko’s mother, and is never considered evil. But, when in battle, she could be incredibly callous, as seen in her treatment of Reg, who she just kept hitting.
