Summary
Bianca Barclay and Wednesday Addams didn’t start on the right foot onWednesday. Before Wednesday’s arrival at Nevermore Academy, Bianca was the undisputed queen of the school. A Siren, she possesses the power of persuasion, exudes confidence, and carries herself with an air of superiority. She also has impressive achievements to her name, including being the class valedictorian, a Poe Cup champion, and being considered one of Nevermore’s most talented, bright, and hardworking students.
Bianca is slightly rattled when another equally powerful and talented student, Wednesday, arrives at Nevermore. Their rubber-and-glue dynamic is filled with sharp retorts, with Nevermore offeringthem plenty of opportunities to best each other. However, their bond begins to evolve with time, withWednesdaydemonstrating how an allyship is written. The duo learn to work in collaborative spaces, serving as each other’s healthy competitors on the show.
Bianca And Wednesday Clash Repeatedly Over Time
Apart from being fiercely competitive, hardworking students and, of course, outcasts, Wednesday and Bianca are worlds apart. While giving Wednesday a tour of the school, her roommate, Enid Sinclair, educates her on Nevermore’s most famous, the top of which isBianca, a leader of an elite clique named Scales at Nevermore. Enid describes Bianca as “the closest thing to royalty,” who used to date Xavier Thorpe. It is also revealed that she and Xavier recently ended their relationship.
The first time Bianca and Wednesday come face to face is during fencing lessons. Bianca defeats Rowan Laslow without a real effort, and demands real competition from the coach, prompting Wednesday to step forward and volunteer. They instantly clash, with Bianca calling Wednesday a “psychopath” and her retorting, “self-appointed Queen Bee.” A fierce match ensues, leaving Wednesday with a nick on her forehead and utterly humiliated by defeat.
“Your face finally got that flash of color it so desperately needed,” Bianca says as Wednesday wipes blood from her forehead.
The fencing match marks the beginning of their rivalry at Nevermore, followed by a sharp exchange of knowledge about carnivorous plants inMarilyn Thornhill’s class. A tense encounter between the two also breaks out during the annual part-canoe, part-foot-chase race known as the Poe Cup. Bianca, a previous champion, is sure to win again through sabotage, while Enid is eager to bring the cup back to Ophelia Hall. When Wednesday accidentally overhears a conversation between Bianca and Xavier, it ignites her determination to beat her competitor, and she informs Enid that she is joining the Black Cats:
I want to humiliate Bianca Barclay so badly that the bitter taste of defeat burns in her throat.
Bianca is furious whenWednesday beats her at her own game, securing a victory for the Black Cats and bringing the cup back to their dorm. Later, she vetoes Xavier’s suggestion to invite Wednesday to the Nightshades after Wednesday deciphers the entry code to their secret library. Though Wednesday turns the Nightshades down, shortly after, the Rave’N night brings them unexpectedly close.
The Rave’N Night That Changes Things
After giving an unforgettable dance performance, Wednesday walks out of the party and sits near Bianca, complaining about her shoes. Bianca offers a soft side to which Wednesday immediately warms up. She opens up about her insecurities and the real reasons behind her breakup with Xavier. Bianca appreciates Wednesday’s devil-may-care attitude, while Wednesday, for the first time, admits she wishes people cared a little more. After this heart-to-heart, Wednesday and Bianca are back on the dance floor, genuinely enjoying themselves.
Wednesday And Bianca’s Bond Is WhatWednesdaySeason 2 Needs
After Mayor Walker’s murder, Bianca and a few other Nevermore students briefly join Wednesday in Tyler’s informal interrogation inWednesday’s episode 8, “A Murder of Woes.” By this point, Wednesday’s vision has confirmed thatTyler is the Hyde, and she has managed to bring a few students, most notably Bianca, to her side.
Xavier rots in a cell, while Tyler denies everything during their confrontation in the woods. This lasts until Bianca uses her siren powers to abduct him and chain him inside Xavier’s cabin, determined to get the truth out of him. Though Wednesday aces the interrogation about Tyler’s mother, Bianca draws the line when she brings out her weapons for “some light torture.” Bianca is the first person to question her methods, urging her to halt, as she is reluctant to cross a moral boundary without solid proof. Bianca’s friends walk out, followed by her, as she urges Wednesday toreport the incident to Weems.
Then, you are on your own.
Bianca brings the incident to Weems, leading her to alert Sheriff Galpin and Wednesday’s subsequent expulsion from Nevermore in exchange for dropping off kidnapping charges. Bianca apologizes to Wednesday as she prepares to leave school, while Wednesday alerts her about the looming dangers. However, Bianca springs into action once Thornhill’s truth comes out,Joseph Crackstone is resurrected, and the school comes under attack.
Bianca And Wednesday’s Friendly Feud
Bianca has evolved from being Wednesday’s peer and rival at Nevermore to one of her key allies. Their relationship is now defined by collaboration, an underrated friendship, and mutual respect. When Wednesday lay in Crackstone’s Crypt, Bianca attentively heard Enid and Ajax, and promptly rushed to take action to support their cause. Nevermore emerges victorious at the end ofWednesdaySeason 1, thanks in part to Bianca and Wednesday’s allyship. As Wednesday leaves for home, she crosses paths with Bianca, and the two end the semester with aplayful nod to their ongoing friendly feud.
