InBoruto: Two Blue Vortex, Boruto Uzumaki is surprisingly consistent in fighting his enemies without the intervention of Momoshiki Otsutsuki. Unlike his former self, he doesn’t rely on the power of Karma to face opponents like Code or even Kawaki. Rather, he depends on his own strength to outmaneuver his foes. Yet still, the potential return of Momoshiki in the story might happen anytime soon.
Momoshiki has been missing in action for quite some time now inBoruto: Two Blue Vortex, ever since Boruto and Sasuke defected from the village. Suspiciously, he remains dormant within Boruto, as if he’s waiting for the perfect opportunity to return and seize full control of the young shinobi’s body. However, with the current direction of theBorutomanga, it seems like Momoshiki is set to appear at any moment, and here’s why.
Momoshiki Has Yet to Appear in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex
Momoshiki Continues to Keep a Low Profile
Momoshiki Otsutsuki is a recurrent characterinBoruto: Naruto Next Generations, with deep ties to Boruto Uzumaki that drive the plot forward. But in theBoruto: Two Blue Vortexmanga, Momoshiki has yet to appear in a single panel, making his eventual return all the more thrilling. Because of this, fans can’t help but wonder why Momoshiki remains quiet within Boruto despite the chaos that’s happening around him.
“I think you know this, but this is just the beginning. You’ll go on to lose everything."—Momoshiki to Boruto
Before fading into the background, Momoshiki often exchanged words with Boruto. Ever sinceKawaki put a massive hole in Boruto’s chest, the two have been forced to coexist, their thoughts overlapping whether they like it or not. At times, they can get along, but more often than not, Momoshiki is up to no good, trying to seize control of Boruto’s body and unleash his destructive abilities.
Momoshiki’s Final Moments Before Lying Dormant
Momoshiki’s last appearance dates back toBoruto: Naruto Next GenerationsChapter 80, when he tries to discourage and break Boruto’s spirit after heloses everything due to Kawaki’s betrayaland Eida’s omnipotence. He urges Boruto to sleep and surrender his body, but his strong mind remains unwavering. It enrages Momoshiki until he has no choice but to back down and give up in the end.
“Hey brat… just for reference, can you tell me what it feels like to lose everything?"—Momoshiki to Boruto
Since then, Momoshiki has been out of commission, while Boruto continues to growstronger after completing Sasuke’s training. With Kashin Koji and his prescience by his side, he also successfully mastered some of his future techniques in a short amount of time. All this work and training might have helped him in keeping Momoshiki at bay, which could probably explain why he has yet to make a comeback. After all, Boruto is more than determined to forbid Momoshiki from controlling his body again, no matter what happens.
What Could Bring Momoshiki Back in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex?
Momoshiki Is Expected to Return in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex Chapter 22
The current events inBoruto: Two Blue Vortexrevolve around theShinju clones and the serious threat they poseto Naruto, Boruto, and the rest of the world. Led by Jura, the Shinju clones are driven by pure instinct and their inner voice, all while possessing immense strength. Yet still, their end goal is to drain the chakra from all living things on the planet and form a chakra fruit—at least for now.
In chapter 21, Boruto heads straight to the battlefield somewhere in the Land of the Wind torescue Konohamaru from the Shinju, Matsuri. Despite Kashin Koji’s strong warnings not to take part in the battle, Boruto can’t help but make a move regardless of the risks. By the end of the chapter, Jura, who is connected to all the Shinju clones through shared senses, stands up from his seat and seems to be heading to the battlefield to possibly seize Boruto and kill him once and for all.
“Don’t even think for a second that I’m going to let you on the loose again!"—Boruto to Momoshiki
This setup in the manga could possibly open an opportunity for Momoshiki to return, asJura is an incredibly powerful opponentwho, according to Kashin Koji, can kill Boruto and trash everything they’ve worked hard for over the years. If that happens, then Momoshiki might appear and take control of Boruto’s body mid-battle, just before Jura could finish him off. After all, Momoshiki would never allow Boruto to die, as his death would spell the same fate for him.
On the flip side, a lot of unexpected things could still unfold in the next chapter that might prevent Momoshiki’s return. Another character, possibly Code, Kawaki, or even Sarada and Kashin Koji, could interfere in the fight before Momoshiki gets the chance to resurface from Boruto’s body. For now, fans will have to wait for more updates and information on this development asBoruto: Two Blue Vortexchapter 22 releases on Jun 13, 2025.
