With a whopping cast featured inAvengers: Doomsday, and a threat to life itself that exists outside of half of the universe, but instead the entire multiverse – it’s worth taking a look at classicMCUcharacters set to feature that could end up dying in this fight against incursions, other worlds, and Doctor Doom.

There are a few characters that could die inAvengers: Doomsday, and the MCU will never be the same without them. Much like how Avengers: Endgame saw the end of Iron Man, Black Widow, and Captain America, it’s likely thatAvengers: Doomsdaywill force audiences to say a heartbreaking goodbye to some classic heroes.

7Thor

The God of Thunder’s Time May Be Over After 8 Movies

Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is really one of the biggest hearts and muscles of the MCU, and this character has been with audiences since Phase One. As the immortal God of Thunder, this Asgardian has suffered, and it’s doubtful that his suffering will be over. Thor is a great character, but how many more movies and universe-ending threats must he take before it’stoo much for him?

Thor is extremely powerful, but how will he handle the knowledge of his brother’s fate as the God of Stories, burdened by his glorious purpose to contain the multiverse? Will he die saving him from Doctor Doom, or will he bite off more than he can chew to save not just a world, but a multiverse?

6Professor Xavier

Charles Xavier Collects Death Like Trophies Across the X-Men Saga

Charles Xavier isno strangerto death. In fact, he’s already died 3 times on-screen. Firstly inX-Men: The Last Stand(2006), secondly inLogan(2017), and thirdly in his MCU debut,Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness(2022). With 3 deaths, it’s somewhat predictable to assume that Professor X is going to die, perhaps as a way to spur on the X-Men in or against the Avengers in their first live-action crossover.

Professor X’s wisdom and mental fortitude are essential to the X-Men, and his leadership helps inspire them to do good in a world that detests mutants. However, Xavier’s death could spur the X-Men, or perhaps even cause Magneto to descend further into villainy alongside Doctor Doom.

5Bucky Barnes

The Winter Soldier’s Character Arc May Be Over

Bucky Barnes has come a long way from Captain America’s best friend, turned brainwashed super soldier, and now congressman. This journey shows how Bucky has adapted to the modern way of American life and how he uses his trauma and the powers bound to it for the betterment of humanity. However, there’s only so much he can do, especially when the entire multiverse is threatened.

Bucky is easily one of the most beloved characters, so nobody wants to see him die, but his death could be the catalyst for consequences forSam Wilson’s Captain America, who has bonded so deeply with Bucky over the years that seeing his death will inspire him to assemble the Avengers once more.

4Sentry

The Ultra-Powered Hero, Wrestling with the Void

The Sentry is one of the strongest heroes in the universe, so his appearance inAvengers: Doomsdayis going to make things feel a little easy, considering he’s strong enough to fight Hulk into a stalemate, among other things. Sentry could pose a great threat to Doctor Doom, which is why Doom might make a play for Sentry’s darker side bybringing out the Voidso that the Avengers have a liability on their hands.

The Sentry’s death could be an easy way to deal with how overpowered he is, and it could come at a tragic sacrifice as he attempts to take his own life to stop the Void, or causes the Avengers to fight him with all of their might.

3Red Guardian

The Ever-Cheery Super Soldier

The Red Guardian is essentially Russia’s failed version of Captain America, except that Red Guardian developed great powers of strength that are only beaten by his large heart. While Red Guardian is set to appear in theThunderbolts*(2025) and survive, as known by his announcement on the cast forAvengers: Doomsday, there’s still room for his demise in his third movie with his debut in an Avengers film.

Red Guardian could be killed off for a few reasons. Firstly, he’s pretty comedic, so killing him would sell the tone of a more serious event. Secondly, it’s a good catalyst to motivate the Thunderbolts and Yelena in particular, but it would also make sense for Red Guardian since he’s always hurling himselfinto dangerous situationsto save those he loves.

2Loki

The God of Stories Who Keeps the Multiverse in His Grasp

Loki has always been burdened by glorious purpose, but it took centuries to discover what that purpose was. Despite his love for his brother and his friends, Loki has left it all behind to control the multiverse, not as a conqueror, but as a guide. Loki acts as Yggdrasil, the world tree, keeping the ever-weaving stories born ofan expanding multiversealive as he sits in the forever and emptiness of time itself.

Loki’s fate is somewhat tragic, and since he’s holding the multiverse together, it seems likely that he will be involved in the plot somewhat. Will Doctor Doom disrupt the multiverse by killing Loki, or will something undo Loki’s purpose? Either way, an emotional reunion is deserved between Thor and Loki, who haven’t seen each other since Loki died inAvengers: Infinity War(2018).

1Ant-Man

A Mighty Hero Who Might Be Too Small for the Fight Ahead

Ant-Man has received his own trilogy and was integral in the victory against Thanos inAvengers: Endgame(2019) thanks to the way time moves differently in the Quantum Realm. Yet, with a concluded trilogy and plans for a villain in Kang that didn’t go anywhere, it seems like Ant-Man’s story is pretty much finished, so where exactly can he go from here other thancomic relief with fun powersthat involve silly items getting big or small?

Perhaps Ant-Man would be the perfect victim to kill off, showing how Doctor Doom doesn’t mess around, and thatAvengers: Doomsdayisn’t going to pull its punches when it involves some of the most beloved heroes in the MCU.
