Summary

There are many new theories swirling around before the arrival of season 3 ofSquid Gameon May 16, 2025. Although a lot of these fan theories seem farfetched, they aren’t completely off the table, especially due to the unexpected twists that often appear in the popular show. Some of these theories even includeGi-hun becoming the next Front Man.

Along with this theory, some have suspected that the Front Man might be losing his absolute power in the final third season. Though the Front Man has always had control over all the Guards, players, and the Games as a whole, the show’s preview for the third season implies things might be changing.

Does the Front Man Really Have Full Power in Squid Game?

Will Everyone Follow His Rules?

The Front Man serves as the head of all the Guards, and has full control over how everything runs during the Games. This includesthe players as well, the VIPs, the games played, and much more. Everything that happens during the event is up to him, and any necessary changes are based on his discretion. Whenever a Guard’s identity is revealed, the Front Man is the first to respond and execute the Guard to prevent any outside exposure.

Similar to having a head boss, or a CEO, everyone must follow the Front Man’s orders, otherwise they will be reprimanded in a way that is much more extreme than being fired or asked to leave the games. However, as we can tell, not all the players and guards are willing to stick to these rules, with some even choosing to rebel, such asGi-hun at the end of season 2. He is able to rally a few of the other players as well, including the Front Man who was disguised as Young-il, or Player 001. Despite his rebellion failing, Gi-hun was able to take out quite a few Guards with his teammates, and gave hope to those looking to put an end to the Games once and for all.

So, in theory, the Front Man can’t actually have absolute power, as not everyone will always be on the same page and want to fall in line. It seems highly likely that, outside Gi-hun, there are a few other people who would either like to take the Front Man’s position by force, or remove him from the picture in order to put an end to the Games. For example, Kang No-eul, one of the Pink Guards that first appeared in season 2, is not one to follow the rules. Though there’s a chance she might want to take the Front Man out to put an end to the Games, she is also quite unpredictable and might want the role for herself. The same goes for the Masked Officer in the black Guard suit, who might have ill intentions towards the Front Man, as well.No one is ever safe inSquid Game, not even the Front Man.

Will the Front Man Lose His Power?

Could Someone Take Him Down?

There are a few different ways that the Front Man could unexpectedly lose his power over the Games and everyone involved. This includes Gi-hun possibly defeating him in a future rebellion alongside other players, another Guard like Kang No-eul or the Masked Officer taking him out to take on the role themselves, or even Hwang In-ho having a change of heart andchoosing to assist Gi-hun in an uprising, therefore stripping him of the role of the Front Man. Although there is nothing to indicate that any of these theories will occur, especially based on the preview for season 3, there is still a possibility that any of these options could happen.

As we can see from the short preview released for season 3, there is a small clip of the Front Man visibly tearing up while sitting in his office. This could indicate many different things, with the possibility of theFront Man’s brother, Hwang Jun-ho, having some kind of accident, or the Front Man experiencing guilt and possibly switching sides. There’s no way to know exactly what is going through his mind until the third season is released, but either way, this small snippet shows cracks in the Front Man’s absolute power over the Games.

A ton of new trash is being poured into the world as we speak. You still don’t see, do you? The game will not end unless the world changes. — The Front Man

As the third season will beSquid Game’s last, it is likely that one of the sides will come out victorious. Whether it is the side of the players, which might include Gi-hun and others who choose to defect, or the Front Man and the organization, someone will likely win the fight. This could result in the Games being demolished, or they could continue on with the Front Man at the helm. However, the Front Man might not be the same person in the role, and there’s a very high possibility that Hwang In-ho will not survive to the very end of the season.

While there’s no way to know for sure just yet, there’s a high chance that the Front Man will lose some kind of control over the Games. Whether he chooses to do this on his own, and joins Gi-hun and the players in their revolution, or another person overthrows him against his will, it looks likely that Hwang In-ho will not have the best ending among the main characters inSquid Game. For those who enjoy the character, the best outcome could be that he sacrifices himself to further Gi-hun’s cause, thereforeending his story on a positive note.
