Summary
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaibais an exciting series that follows brave combatants known as demon slayers as theyfight Demon King Muzanand his subordinates. To join the Demon Slayer Corps, every candidate must do the required physical conditioning before trying Final Selection, a rigorous selection process that pushes applicants to their limits.
While Final Selection is quite tough, a lot of demon slayers join the Demon Slayer Corps for the wrong reason or the wrong attitude. Here are some of those characters who should never have become a demon slayer.
6Ozaki
Low-Ranked Demon Slayer Who Died a Horrific Death
Ozakiwas a selfless and kind demon slayer who was selected to fight demons on Mount Natagumo along with her squad. But she had the misfortune of being turned into a puppet by the mother of the spider family. She was too weak to free herself and was used to attack anyone who came close to her.
Bring someone with a higher rank! If you don’t, I’ll kill them all! Please!
Ozaki ended updying moments after meeting Inosukeand Tanjiro. She was clearly too underpowered and probably did not have the mental strength to deal with psychologically exhausting situations that required quick thinking.
5Murata
Just Not Made For Job
Muratais an anxious and underpowered demon slayer who makes hisdebut in the Mount Natagumo arc. Although he is easily overwhelmed and has a fragile ego, he has shown that he can continue fighting even when his squad is wiped right in front of him.
Murata joinedthe Demon Slayer Corpsafter the murder of his parents, as he had no family left. While he did manage to make it through the Final Selection, he did not really have the natural talent it takes to fight demons. Interestingly, he was in the same batch as Sabito and Giyu. Almost all the demons on the mountain that year were killed by Sabito, so many applicants like Murata never had to fight to earn their place in the Demon Slayer Corps.
4Aoi Kanzaki
Can’t Stand Combat
Aoi Kanzakiis a former demon slayer who works at the Butterfly Mansion as a helper. She is a trained craftsman and also knows how to make medicines thanks to hertraining under Insect Hashira.
Compared to you guys, I’m not so important, so thanks aren’t necessary. I survived selection due to pure luck. Since then I’ve been afraid to fight, so I’m a coward.
Interestingly, Kanzakiis a Water Breathing userwho had passed the Final Selection sometime in the past. But due to her insecurity and fear of combat, she never served as a demon slayer. Kanzaki is more suited for other roles that she has embraced at the Butterfly Mansion and should have never even appeared for the Final Selection knowing that she detests combat.
3Genya Shinazugawa
Can’t Use Breathing Style
Genya Shinazugawais the only demon slayer in the present generation who cannot use a breathing style. In order to compensate for this, he uses the repetitive action techniqueinvented by Gyomei Himejimaalong with demon consumption. While the former is an innovative strategy, the latter is an outright bizarre ability as Genya consumes demon flesh to temporarily gain demonic characteristics.
Interestingly, his older brother Sanemi always wanted his brother to start a family of his own and not get involved with the Demon Slayer Corps. His fears were understandable sinceGenya was severely handicapped to fight demonsbecause of his inability to use breathing styles. As great as the demon consumption worked out for him, he could have saved his brother from lifelong trauma had he listened to him.
2Zenitsu
Hates Being a Demon Slayer
Zenitsu Agatsumaalways hated hard workand was particularly afraid of pushing himself to his limits. But he had the fortune of learning directly from Jigoro Kuwajima, the former Thunder Hashira, who never gave up on him. If it wasn’t for him, it is highly unlikely that Zenitsu would have ever joined the Demon Slayer Corps, as he almost gave up thecruel training for Final Selectionon several occasions.
I hate myself more than anyone. I always think I have to get my act together, but I end up cowering, running away, sniveling. I want to change. I want to be a competent person.
Even after becoming a demon slayer, Agatsuma struggled to fit in and always hated every training session, unlike his peers. His endless nagging and whiny attitude made him appear unfit for the dangerous career he had assigned himself. While it’s true that Zenitsu is incredibly effective after he falls asleep, it is hard to ignore the fact that he complains endlessly about every mission he has been on and appears to hate every aspect of being a demon slayer.
1Kaigaku
Should Have Never Been Taught Thunder Breathing
Kaigakuhad the misfortuneof losing his parents at a young age. Left to fend for herself, he ended up resorting to petty crimes to fill his stomach and survive. These experiences ended up molding his personality negatively, and even though he received love later, it failed to reshape his character.
Kaigaku’s selfishness and intense self-preservation influenced most of his life decisions, so someone like him should never have had the blessing of learning Thunder breathing under a former Hashira. Instead of helping him become a better person, his newfound abilities not only corrupted him more but also became a serious threat to society afterhe decided to accept Kokushibo’s twisted offer.
