Summary

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaibais an exciting series focused on an endless conflict between twisted demons and heroic demon slayers. The inconsistent philosophies of the two parties frequently lead to violent and deadly battles that push the characters to their physical limits. While each demon possesses unique powers, perhaps the most terrifying trait they can potentially acquire is the ability to survive beingbeheaded by a Nichirin sword.

Demon Slayers typically rely on their blades to decapitate their adversaries and kill them, so realizing that even that is not enough can be frightening. Let’s look at the select few demons who have demonstrated such overwhelming regenerative power to understand what makes them special.

Demon Slayer

Demon King: Muzan Kibutsuji

The Progenitor of Demons

Muzan Kibutsuji has always been obsessedwith immortality. In his pursuit of eternal life, he ruthlessly seeks ways to overcome his weakness of sunlight. Unlike his minions, Kibutsuji does not have to fear the Nichirin weapons, as he cannot be killed even by being beheaded. This almost gives him a nearly invincible status, making him one of the most feared beings in existence.

The heavens are not punishing me. Despite the hundreds, thousands of humans I’ve killed, I’ve been let off the hook. And I have never seen a God or Buddha over these thousand years.

Throughout the series, Muzan sends his henchmen to target demon slayers. But he eventually falls into Kagaya’s trapin the Hashira Trainingarc and has to finally give a glimpse of how truly dangerous he is. Even though Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima uses his Nichirin chained spiked flail and axe to behead the Demon King, he manages to regrow his head almost instantly.

What makes this truly frightening is the fact that Muzan has survived a massive explosion just a few moments earlier. His regenerative powers are second to none, but it should also not be surprising, knowing that he is the progenitor of demons and has lent his powers to every powerful demon in existence.

Kokushibo: The Upper-Rank One

The Demon Who Uses a Breathing Style

Kokushibois one of the oldest demonsalive. He is a master swordsman who has spent centuries working on refining his craft and becoming stronger with each passing era. Having lived for hundreds of years, he has amassed powers beyond the scope of an ordinary demon and has become one of the few demons capable of regrowing his head in almost an instant.

In his usual form, Kokushibo does not look much different from his human appearance, except for the six eyes on his face that make him extremely frightening. However, he transforms into a grotesque monster with horns, mandibles, and fangs when someone manages to behead him using a Nichirin blade. This is possible only because of Kokushibo’s extraordinary will to fight, because of which it is extremely tough to defeat him.

Doma: The Upper-Rank Two

The Demon Who is Also a Cult Leader

Domais a cold and calculative monsterwho is detested even by his peers. He is arguably the most manipulative demon alive, as he thrives on winning people’s trust to fulfill his twisted desires. Doma is also one of the most powerful demons in existence, and despite joining Muzan’s forces after Akaza, he was able to surpass the demon to become Upper-Rank Two.

Doma’s rise as a frightening demon can be attributed to his immense powers, as he isable to defeat even Hashirawithout ever taking the battle seriously. It should not come as a surprise, then, that he is also one of the few demons who can regrow his head.

During the Swordsmith Village arc, when Nakime assembles all high-ranking demons for a meeting, Doma is also invited. Akaza, who detests Doma, ends up punching off the upper portion of his head over a minor disagreement. Despite the hostile attack, Doma does not even flinch and even defends it as a friendly gesture. He is able to effortlessly regrow his head and acts as if it does not even bother him. This incident goes to show how dangerous Doma truly is and offers a glimpse of his frightening regenerative powers.

Akaza: The Upper-Rank Three

The Prodigious Martial Artist Turned Demon

The Upper-Rank ThreeAkazais a ruthless demon who loves to fight. Unlike other demons who might have other motives, Akaza relishes the battle itself and finds joy in defeating a worthy rival. Like most high-ranking demons, he possesses frightening powers, but what separates him from others is his will to fight.

You misunderstand, Tanjiro. I only despise the weak. I only spit on weaklings. Yes. Weaklings make me sick. It is the law of nature that they be weeded out.

Akaza can heal most injuries almost instantly, and when push comes to shove, he even fights without his head. Even in that precarious state, his attacks are accurate and powerful enough to overwhelm top demon slayers. As if this is not already terrifying, Akaza can also regrow his head following decapitation.Like Kokushibo, he is able to do sobecause of his sheer will to fight that transcends the limitations of his demon body.
