Summary
The in-game eventRite of the Ninehas brought a loot and mechanic refresh to severalDestiny 2dungeons, as the Age of Triumph and Pantheon events once did for raids. With this, each of the 12 chosen weapons has received a new Nine-themed graphical upgrade, as well as perk refreshes, Adept variants, and the highly sought-after “shiny” variants.
This article looks at all 12 of the reprised weapons in this event and ranks them on how well they fit into the current meta. While each is a must-grab purely for their awesome new aesthetics, some are better options for players without the time to farm rolls of each. With the option to attune to a chosen weapon, now is the time to try to get the perfect shiny-adept roll of an old favorite.
12Terminus Horizon
Arc High-Impact Frame Machine Gun
The first of the weapons on this list is Terminus Horizon, the heavy machine gun from the Spire of the Watcher dungeon. This weapon has been given a lot of love with this update, now having access to the roll of Dragonfly and Jolting Feedback, which can clear a room with ease. It can also roll Reconstruction and Killing Tally for a more traditional damage-dealing roll.
The main drawback to this weapon is simply that machine guns are not in favor at the moment, with Linear Fusion Rifles and Rocket Launchers being the go-to heavy ammo choices. It is hard to recommend giving up a heavy slot for this weapon for add-clear when there are so many more effective special ammo options.
11Long Arm
Arc Aggressive Frame Scout Rifle
AnotherSpire of the WatcherWeapon, the Long Arm is one of the “Dead Man’s Tale”-like scout rifles, favoring firing from the hip with surprising accuracy. The main issue with this is that not only are scout rifles out of fashion currently, but many other scout rifles do the same thing but better.
With a roll like Rapid Hit and Explosive Payload, this weapon can be used as an effective champion-stunning option in endgame PvE, but it has little else going for it. Without any subclass-specific perks, Long Arm simply falls behind its competition.
10Liminal Vigil
Stasis Heavy Burst Sidearm
Liminal Vigil was a fan favorite upon its release; however has since fallen into obscurity thanks to the appearance of Rocket-Assisted Sidearms. While it looks great in the new white, silver, and blue treatment, it still falls into the category of “only use for a dedicated Stasis build”, in which case many players will chooseTinasha’s Mastery.
Despite this, Liminal Vigil has the potential to be lethal in PvP with the right roll, giving it great range and aim-assist, if a player can utilize it in the correct engagement distances.
9A Sudden Death
Void Aggressive Frame Shotgun
Void has been a flavor of the Episode, with several artifact perks super-powering Void weapons, which A Sudden Death will most definitely benefit from. With the potential for a roll like Repulsor Brace and Destabilizing Rounds making this one of many weapons able to perfectly synergize with a Void subclass, it is a decent option for someone looking for a shotgun to fit this roll.
It can also roll with a unique combination of One-Two PunchandTrench Barrel, buffing both melee damage and shot damage, perfect for a Strand titan to utilize. As an aggressive frame shotgun,A Sudden Deathcan hold its own in PvP, with Slideshot or Threat Detector and Opening Shot or Closing Time giving it an impressive one-shot-kill range.
8Prosecutor
Arc Precision Frame Auto Rifle
Prosecutor is one of many Arc auto rifles floating around the game currently, which are particularly potent with the current episodic artifact perks. Rolling with Attrition Orbs and Rolling Storm can make for a fantastic support weapon, providing consistent orbs of power and Bolt Charge for simply using the weapon.
Alternatively, Dragonfly and Voltshot make for a room-clearing machine, causing explosions and Jolt effects that’ll get rid of any smaller enemies with ease. While auto rifles are not a top PvP contender, there are several great PvP perks available on Prosecutor for anyone looking for a reliable workhorse.
7Wilderflight
Void Double Fire Grenade Launcher
Wilderflight sits in a similar position to A Sudden Death, being the perfect option for a Void-focused build, however not doing so as well as something like Lotus Eater. Wilderflight has a few options, however, that set it apart from the competition, and it notably a relatively unique weapon type.
Being able to run Withering Gaze instead of Destabilizing Rounds makes Wilderflight a better option for the hardest content in the game, not requiring kills to Void debuff a target in order to activate Repulsor Brace or stun a champion. On top of this, it can also roll Envious Arsenal and Bait And Switch for a roll that can slot well into almost anydamage rotation.
6Relentless
Strand High-Impact Frame Pulse Rifle
Relentless is yet another example of “weapons to fill out an elemental loadout”, with this high-impact pulse rifle being an offering for Strand. Rolling Tear or Slice with Hatchling allows Relentless to relentlessly spread Strand keywords across the battlefield with ease, and at a surprising range.
However, if a player is looking for a more unique and potentially more powerful roll, Firefly and Elemental Honing has an interesting interaction. Elemental Honing ramps up weapon damage with each unique form of elemental damage dealt, weapons usually being capped to one at a time. With Firefly, however, Relentless can deal it’s default Strand, and Solar upon getting a precision kill, giving the weapon two stacks of Elemental Honing on its own.
5Cold Comfort
Stasis Aggressive Frame Rocket Launcher
For a time,Cold Comfort was the pinnacle of Rocket Launcher DPS, thanks to the multitude of perks it has that allow it to overflow its magazine, and its origin trait that can store an auto reload. While it has fallen behind other options, such as Hezen Vengeance and Apex Predator, Cold Comfort is still an incredible DPS option.
With a roll of Reconstruction or Envious Arsenal and Bait And Switch, a player can utilizeDestiny’s bread and butter damage combo, consistently refilling the magazine without reloading and increasing the damage output. Alternatively, a player can utilize Chill Clip for champion-stunning potential and an overall increase to team damage output thanks to Stasis shatter effects.
4New Pacific Epitaph
Stasis Wave Frame Grenade Launcher
Yet another weapon that has been overshadowed in recent years, New Pacific Epitaph is still the game’s only Stasis wave frame grenade launcher, and as such is a must-have purely for its unique archetype. Outside of this, it is also capable of clearing a room with ease, thanks to perks like Demolitionist and Chain Reaction, reloading the weapon, refunding grenade energy, and causing killed enemies to explode.
New Pacific Epitaph can also roll Redirection, which has seen a huge uptick in usage since it was reworked, allowing a player to store up a huge damage shot to use against a powerful target. Paired with Envious Arsenal, this can be used to great effect in a damage rotation, provided the boss has feet that touch the ground.
3No Survivors
Solar Aggressive Frame SMG
No Survivors is possibly one of the best SMG options in the game, thanks simply to the combination ofHeal Clip and Incandescent. While many weapons are able to roll this combination, one is seen later in this list, No Survivors is the only Solar SMG with this roll that can be obtained as an Adept weapon, giving it a leg up on its competition.
Attrition Orbs and Master of Arms are two other potent perk options on this weapon, with Rangefinder, Surplus, Target Lock and Zen Moment all being serviceable options for PvP usage. For a long time, Calus Mini-Tool was a fan favorite thanks to its Incandescent and Unrelenting perk combination. No Survivors has now replaced this with a much more consistent roll, with better origin traits, and the option to get an Adept version.
