Summary

Following the recent frustrations with the Rite of the Nine schedule inDestiny 2, Bungie announced major changes to the event which should make things much better for players. Despite Episode Heresy largely wrapping its content up weeks ago, Bungie has continued to add new things forDestiny 2players to do, from the Heavy Metal Crucible event, to the recently launched Rite of the Nine activity.

However, following this week’sDestiny 2weekly reset, fan frustrations spiked with the game over what many perceived to be timegating by Bungie.Destiny 2has a long history with timegated content, with the most recent example having been with Episode Revenant getting adjusted to allow players to access the story content faster. In this situation, players weren’t aware of the dungeon rotation for Rite of the Nine being set to three-week intervals, as many were surprised to see Spire of the Watcher being featured again at reset.

In response to the frustrations and backlash over this discovery, Bungie has outlined a plan to make major changes toDestiny 2’s Rite of the Nine event. Starting immediately, the dungeon calendar for Rite of the Nine is getting scaled back to two-week intervals instead of three, so the reset on May 20 will see Ghosts of the Deep, followed by Prophecy on June 3. In addition, Bungie is increasing the Nonary Manifold currency drop rates, a currency that players can use to purchase new weapons.

Destiny 2 Making More Rite of the Nine Changes in June and July

However, the schedule change is just the beginning, according to Bungie. The studio also revealed that by June 17, all three dungeons will be available to play at any time, at any difficulty with increased currency drops as well. Each week in the featured dungeon, starting with Spire of the Watcher,Destiny 2players will see boosted Rite of the Nine weapon drop rates as well. Finally, on July 8,Destiny 2will kick off “lootapalooza” where all three dungeons will have double reward bonuses as well as a new way to spend thespecial Nonary Manifold currency.

Response to the changes have been largely well received by the community, with many expressing surprise at how quickly Bungie responded. All told, it’s been a solid couple of weeks for the studio, as they not only revealed the upcoming year of content and changes for fans, but they also launched anew Crucible event called Heavy Metal. The mode lets players drive tanks or brigs in a vehicle-only mode, something unique forDestiny 2.
