After Dexter faked his own death inthe iconic location of Miamiin the original season finale back in 2013, it looked like the serial killer with a code had killed his final victim. However, fans were not satisfied with the ending, and the limited series,Dexter: New Blood, was launched in 2021, withDexter’s original showrunner, Clyde Phillips, determined to finally give Dexter a proper ending. Dexter’s son, Harrison, shot and supposedly killed his father, but fans were also not happy with this divisive ending, and the series became Showtime’s biggest ever hit, so when the Paramount merger was completed, the aim was to build the Dexter-verse, with the prequel,Original Sin, a sequel,Resurrectionand a spin-off serial based onJohn Lithgow’s iconic villain, The Trinity Killer.

It has now emerged thatDexter: Resurrectioncould lead to more spin-offs, but this time it would be focused on brand-new characters.Marvel star Krysten Ritterwill play the mysterious new character, Mia Lapierre (a.k.a. Lady Vengeance) inDexter: Resurrection, and according toHollywood insider Daniel Richtman, she could be one of the new characters getting their own story fleshed out:Richtman told his Patreon followers that Paramount intends to expand the Dexter universe in a similar way to Yellowstone, with spin-offs focused on characters who haven’t even appeared yet, and Ritter’s Lady Vengeance fits into that category.

Krysten Ritter Could End Up Being A One-Season Villain In Dexter: Resurrection And Future Spin-Offs Might Focus On Other New Characters

Krysten Ritter is a big star, but her role inDexter: Resurrectionwon’t be a series regular and this could mean one of two things: she’ll end up on Dexter’s kill table, or it’s an elaborate set-up for her character to be spun off into her own show.Deadlinebroke the news of her casting inDexter: Resurrectionback in February 2025, and her character description stated she was ‘a renowned sommelier who may be hiding a serial killer secret.’ If she was hiding a murderous intent, she would be exactly the kind of character who could feature in her own spin-off show in the Dexter-verse. Not to mention, Ritter is very much leading star quality, after her iconic turn inJessica Jones. However, Ritter is an actress in high demand, so it’s unclear if she’ll want to be tied down to a leading role in another television drama that could run for multiple seasons.

If Lady Vengeance doesn’t get her own show there are several other options on the table for potential spin-off series featuring new characters.Uma Thurman was given second billing inDexter: Resurrection’s debut season to the surprise of many fans, but this could end up being a springboard for her own solo show. Before Daniel Richtman broke the news about the plans for the sprawling Dexter universe, he leaked information about Thurman’s casting, so it’s possible he might have also been given the heads-up about plans for a spin-off.Neil Patrick Harris and David Dastmalchian will also make guest appearances inDexter: Resurrection, so their characters could potentially be candidates for their own spin-off series. The original plan was to proceed with aHarrison Morgan spin-off, set in the aftermath ofNew Blood’s ending, but the character wasn’t well-received, and it was considered a safer bet to bringMIchael C. Hall’s titular serial killerback to life inDexter: Resurrection. This could mean any future spin-offs with brand-new characters inResurrectionwill have to wait for feedback from the audience before getting the go ahead.
