Dexter: Resurrection’s teaser felt like a very clear nod to the golden era of the serial killer series, and every legacy fan probably knows why.Dexter holding the newspaper reporting on his death is a subtle nod to the promo image from the very first season of the original series, where he held a copy of The Miami Star.Of course, there is also the return of theiconic title sequencemusic, which could be a sign that it might also make a return.Dexter Dailyalso pointed out the return of the color schemes from the second and fourth seasons, with the blue background. All of this bodes well for the upcoming new series, which will hopefully be a return to what fans loved most about the Dexter-verse. The limited series,New Blood, was very different in tone, and while it was positively received, the ending was very divisive, which is something the creative team will be hoping to avoid with Resurrection.
Dexter Resurrection’s Official Synopsis Teases The Return Of Legacy Characters And A Brand New Story
News of Dexter’s death was greatly exaggerated, and he’s back, and means business in Paramount + with Showtime’s new spin-off, Resurrection. The official synopsis reads:
Dexter: Resurrection takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But closure won’t come easy. When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined, and that the only way out is together.
Dexter’s showrunner, Clyde Phillipsrevealed why the series was actually coming back during a recent Reddit AMA, and it turns out, Michael C. Hall missed playing the serial killer with a code, and that’s a big reason why. Guess what? The fans did too. Of course, the fact that Dexter found a new audience on Netflix, and the limited series,New Blood, was Showtime’s biggest ever hit also played a massive part. This convinced Paramount + to merge with Showtime, and that has led to the prequel series,Original Sin, anupcoming Trinity Killer spin-off, and sequel series,Resurrection.
The Dexter-verse is expanding, and it’s an exciting time for fans. The creative team plan to keepResurrectiongoing for multiple seasons, as opposed to the limited series,New Blood, and it’ll be interesting to see what they come up with.Based on the synopsis,Angel Batistais looking to confront Dexter about his links to the Bay Harbor Butcher serial killer case, and this is a plot line that has been long awaited, and could lead to fireworks. The reconciliation between Dexter and Harrison has also been teased in the synopsis, while the introduction of Peter DInklage’s Leon Prater and Uma Thurman’s Charley was left out completely, with the first trailer likely to delve into that.
