Summary
Diablo 4has released a big new update for May 2025. Identified by version number 2.2.1, the patch introduces dozens of changes, including some big skill buffs and fixes for a wide variety ofDiablo 4bugs.
BetweenDiablo 4’s early access releaseand April 2025, Blizzard’s hit action RPG received over 40 patches, both big and small. Its latest major content drop materialized on April 29, when Season 8: Belial’s Return officially kicked off.
Following up on this release, Blizzardrolled out anotherDiablo 4update on May 14. The patch bumps the game’s version number up to 2.2.1 and refines some Season 8 content via balancing tweaks and bug fixes. In terms of season-specific changes, the update makes Sayeena start trading Spectral Ash for Oath Scrolls, used to increase Unveiler’s Oath reputation necessary for completing the current Seasonal Questline. Sayeena is located in Tarsarak, in the immediate vicinity of the local Reputation Board.
Severalboss powers featured inDiablo 4’s Season 8have been adjusted with the newly released patch. Hatred’s Embrace’s Haste now has a slightly different Modifier effect, which will no longer fall off when switching weapons. By having the bonus Critical Strike chance boosted by the character’s Shadow Resistance persist between weapon changes, Blizzard is apparently looking to make Hatred’s Embrace’s Haste a bit more versatile. The other change concerns Sinerat’s Flame, whose Main Effect burns nearby enemies over four seconds whenever a Mobility skill is used. The damage mobs incur from this skill has now been buffed from 50% to 75%.
The May 14 update also promises to slightly refine the gameplay experience ofDiablo 4players farming in Season 8. The Apparition Incursions icon has been redesigned to appear more prominently on the screen, whereas Apparition Bosses will now have Betraying eyes spawn more consistently in their vicinity. Blizzard also added an additional objective with the goal of clearly communicating that there are two ways of obtaining Season 8 reputation: defeating Sanctuary bosses and completing Apparition Incursion(s).
According toDiablo 4’s 2025 roadmap, the game’s next season will be called Sins of the Horadrim. Its plot will center on the Wanderer taking on the task of hunting multiple demonic lords. Season 9 promises to rework Nightmare Dungeons by adding new interactions and activities, in addition to introducing one permanent feature in the form of mouse and keyboard support for the console versions of the game. Sins of the Horadrim is planned to run between July and September 2025.
