It has been an exciting year forDisney Lorcanaso far, with Archazia’s Island introducing the new Dual-Ink cards and a new character that is not from Disney movies or properties. Yet, 2025 is just starting for the TCG, as much more content is on the way as soon as next month with the set that will close out the Hexwell Crown story started in Year 1, called Reign of Jafar. Fans of the game will have a lot to look forward to withLorcana’s future sets, as each of them seems promising in terms of themes, new gameplay features or changes, and IP additions.
The current meta decks in the game have changed quite a lot sinceLorcanabanned Hiram Flaversham - Toymaker and Fortisphere, dealing a massive blow to Sapphire/Steel’s performance. Yet, the meta is about to change once more with the addition of Reign of Jafar cards, though more details about the cards that come with the set have yet to be revealed. Game Rant attended a preview event dedicated toLorcana’s big Fabled set in September, as well as the release schedule for 2025 and some early expectations for 2026.
Lorcana’s Reign of Jafar Expansion Will Close Year 2 Out in Style
The expansion is all about Jafar taking overArchazia’s Islandand transforming it into his reign full of sand and snakes. The story revolves around the heroes trying to steal Jafar’s Hexwell Crown and destroy it, as illustrated in the Palace Heist box that features a co-op mode, much like the one dedicated to Ursula in Ursula’s Return.
The set featuresLorcana’s Dual-Ink cardsagain, with Jafar himself getting a new Amethyst/Steel card called Jafar - High Sultan ofLorcana. This card also has a Set Champ Enchanted version, which players will be able to obtain in tournaments. Characters from Aladdin will return, featuring the namesake of the IP as well as Jasmine, the Magic Carpet, and so on. Illusions with the Vanish keyword will also return, such as the Palace Guard Amethyst card.
Jasmine keeps true to herSapphire/Steel Ink color combination inLorcanain Reign of Jafar, getting a new card called Jasmine - Steady Strategist, which has the Shift mechanic as well as an affinity with Ally characters like her version from Archazia’s Island. Rapunzel is getting a new Legendary version in Emerald color, called Rapunzel - High Climber, which perfectly fits the character’s lore and combines it with gameplay effects like Evasive.
Jasmine - Steady Strategist also has an Enchanted version with a new foil effect that includes a myriad of sand beetles. This is in line with the themes of Reign of Jafar, and it will be shared by otherEnchanted cards inLorcana’s new set.
Reign of Jafar will also include cards from theBambiDisney movie for the first time ever, such as Bambi - Prince of the Forest, Flower - Sly Skank, and Thumper - Young Bunny. Several promos will also be featured in weekly challenges in stores, mostly featuring Dual-Ink cards dedicated to thepuppies of Archazia’s Island, theAladdinIP, and other iconicLorcanacharacters.
What to Expect From Disney Lorcana in 2025 and 2026
Disney Lorcana’s 2025still has a lot in store after Reign of Jafar in June and Fabled in September, as Ravensburger is getting ready to reveal the first full Year 3 set in the form of Whispers in the Well. This expansion will come out in Q4 2025, and from the key art it seems it will includeThe Hunchback of Notre Damegiven the presence of a gargoyle in the back of the image.
That’s not all, though, as Ravensburger is preparing to finally addDarkwing DucktoLorcanain 2026. A release date for this has not been provided just yet, but it could very well be the firstLorcanaset of 2026.
