Dragon Ball SuperManga Will Celebrate Its 10th Anniversary By Being On Indefinite Hiatus

There’s Still No Update On The Manga’s Return

Generally, the 10th anniversary of a popular manga series is celebrated with a series of massive announcements. In the case ofDragon Ball Super, however,it’s best for the community not to expect anything big. As reported byDbsHype on X, the next V-Jump Issue will feature a celebratory illustration and a new illustration from Toyotaro to celebrate the 7th anniversary ofLegends. But that’s the extent of it; fansshouldn’t expect any major announcement on the anime or the manga’s return.

After concluding theGranolah The Survivor story arc,Dragon Ball Superdecided to put the story arc into reverse gear and adapt theevents fromthe Super Hero movie. The manga concluded theSuper Heroarc with Chapter 103, and while the creatorteased Black Friezaas the next original arc for the series, themanga went on an indefinite hiatus right afterSuper Hero’s conclusion. The reason for this frustrating break is thecreative differences between Akio Iyoku and Shueisha. The legal battle between these two parties to take over the creative rights ofDragon Ball Superhasn’t yet been resolved, and it’s hard to say how long it will take for them to resolve this dispute.

Dragon Ball Superstarted in June 2015, and since then, it has become a massive IP spanningseveral standalone moviesand an incredibly popular anime series from Toei.Dragon Ballfans loveSuperas much as they lovedDBZ, so, of course, they expect to hear some news around the manga’s return during the 10th anniversary celebration. Unfortunately, though, the future ofDragon Ball Superwill sadly stay undecided until the rights ofDBSare handed over to either party or Akio Iyoku and Shueisha come to a mutual understanding. This further means that the manga will stay on hiatus even during the time it’s completing its 10-year run.

Black Frieza Could Be The Main Focus OfDragon Ball SuperOnce It Returns

Frieza is one of thegreatest villains of theDragon BallZ series. Unfortunately, he was sidelined for the majority ofDragon Ball Super’sstory. It was surely great and refreshing to witness Frieza fighting side by side with Goku to save Universe 7, but it would have been great for the character to embrace his villainous side.Frieza has also unveiled his powerful “Black” transformation during the Granolah story arc.

The antagonistic character made it evidently clear that he is now powerful enough to go againstGoku’s Ultra Instinct and Vegeta’s Ultra Ego transformation. So, focusing on the rivalry between the Saiyans and Frieza could very well be themain focus point of the nextDBSstory arc. It would be against Frieza’s nature not to go after Goku and Vegeta after realizing the true extent of his newly-found transformation. All being said,we can only hope for the series to return with the Black Frieza arc, but the fact of the matter is that the future ofDBSstill remainsuncertain. It’s hard to say when or if the series will make an actual comeback.
