Dragon Ball Superfans expect the manga to return from hiatus this year. When it returns,Dragon Ball Superwill enter a new arc, as the last chapters concluded the previous story arc. While there is still much to explore, fans are mostly looking forward to a potential Black Frieza arc.
Black Frieza has already been introduced, but not much is known about him yet. Fans are excited about the little information that has come out and are eager to see Frieza in this new form, to see what he is truly made of in battle, and to see him give Goku and Vegeta a hard time while posing a new threat to the universe.
When Will The Black Frieza Arc Start?
Dragon Ball Superis currently on hiatus. In March 2024, the series concluded the Super Hero Saga, which covers the events of theDragon Ball Super: Super Heromovie and adds much more to the series. In February 2025, a new chapter was released, featuring a special side story related to the Super Hero Saga. This arc takes place from Chapter 91 to Chapter 104 (Volumes 21–24).
While many fans hope that the Black Frieza arc will begin when the manga returns from hiatus, there is no official information about the next arc of the story. As Toyotaro has hinted that he is thinking about the Black Frieza arc, it may be close — however, there is a fair chance that Toyotaro willstart an arc referencingDragon Ball Daimabefore the Black Frieza arc. In any case, it might be best for Toyotaro to finish the manga soon, because if he continues it for too long, fans may accuse him of straying from Toriyama’s original vision, especially if they dislike the direction the story takes.
How Powerful is Black Frieza?
So far, all we know aboutBlack Frieza is a glimpse of his true powers. This transformation was introduced during the Granolah the Survivor Saga, but the movieDragon Ball Super: Brolyhad already hinted that Frieza would eventually get an insane power-up. Friezaunleashed this new form after training in a Hyperbolic Time Chamberthat he had found on a planet he conquered, and he spent 10 years training there.
He apparently has fully mastered this new form, making him even more dangerous than ever, as he is nearly as powerful as the Gods of Destruction — according toV-JUMP, he is so powerful that it cannot even be measured. It has also been confirmed that he isstronger than any member of the Dragon Teamin their prime, which leads fans to wonder what kind of new transformation they could unleash, if any.
Could The Story Continue After Black Frieza?
As Frieza is an iconic villain who is now in his true prime, many fans think that it wouldn’t make much sense to continue the story after such an iconic battle. Defeating Black Frieza would definitely give fans a sense of closure. Furthermore, there is hardly anything that could live up to the hype of a potential Black Frieza arc, as the stakes will probably be very high — after all, who would stop Black Frieza from conquering the universe or doing whatever he wants?
There are three things I refuse to tolerate: cowardice, bad haircuts, and military insurrection. And it is unfortunate that our friend Vegeta possesses all three of these.
— Frieza in Dragon Ball Z
However, this isDragon Ballwe are talking about. The story could definitely continue after Black Frieza, just asDragon Ball Zcontinued after Frieza. However, it would require a lot of effort to keep fans interested. A better question is whetherthe storyshouldcontinue after Black Frieza. The answer will depend on how this arc will be handled, butthe general feeling is that it should be the final arc, since it would end the series in great style.
When Will Dragon Ball Super Return?
Unfortunately, there is no news aboutDragon Ball Superreturning from hiatus in the near future. Some fans hoped to get some goodnews aboutDB Superon Goku Day(May 9), but that didn’t happen. Fans are hoping that the upcoming issue ofV-JUMPwill announce a return date, but for now, they can only wait patiently for more information.
