Elden Ring Nightreignis swiftly approaching its release, and everyone is gearing up for the late-May launch. This multiplayer-focused roguelike spin onElden Ringcaught Game Awards 2024 viewers off guard with its debut, and now, with another multiplayer FromSoftware game calledThe Duskbloodsalready announced for the Nintendo Switch 2, it’s on the cusp of proving whether its experiments were worthwhile. Although there isn’t as much hype aroundElden Ring Nightreignas there is a typical new FromSoftware release, this title will hopefully deliver fans an experience thatElden Ringcouldn’t provide on its own.
Players will jump intoNightreignwith the choice of eight Nightfarers to take on one of eight Night Lords, and can attempt the task solo or with two companions. AlthoughElden Ring Nightreign’s enemy rosteris made up of recycledDark SoulsandElden Ringfoes, the Nightfarers and Night Lords seem to all be original. While only one Night Lord is concretely known fromNightreign’s beta, six of the eight Nightfarers have been named so far in various previews. The last two were recently spotted in a leak on X, and though they should be properly unveiled soon, there’s already a fair bit known about each.
What’s Known About Elden Ring Nightreign’s Nightfarers
Although six Nightfarers have been named, seven have actually been shown across all ofElden Ring Nightreign’s marketing. These characters are:
The Executor is the first of the two currently nameless Nightfarers leaked, though they haven’t come as a surprise.Elden Ring Nightreign’s reveal trailerand first round of promotional images included looks at all seven of the aforementioned Nightfarers, even though it took the rest of the game’s marketing cycle for them all to be named. At least the ongoing series of character trailers means that the Executor won’t be mysterious for much longer.
Details about the then-nameless Executor were swiftly extracted fromNightreign’s reveal, and they’ve had fans excited about this androgynous armored figure for a while. Their signature weapon appears to be a long sword that they wield deftly with just one hand, which is able to be enchanted with what looks like holy energy in preparation for a giant slash. What most players are concerned with, however, is the Executor’s potential passive ability, appearing to be permanent Deflecting Hardtear status thatgives themSekiro-like parrieswith any weapon. For those who want that, the Executor could be a game-changer.
Elden Ring Nightreign’s Revenant Could Be Its Biggest Surprise
Finally pairing a name with the Executor’s design was nice, but it pales in comparison to the revelation that is the Revenant. This mysterious eighth Nightfarer was almost completely absent fromElden Ring Nightreign’s marketing, only being alluded to as the lone character withaccess toElden Ring’s Spirit Ashes. Said Ashes will apparently work in a new way, and the feminine Revenant does indeed stand out among their fellow Nightfarers, sporting a predominantly white color scheme and a signature weapon that is brand-new to bothElden Ringand FromSoftware’s Soulslike lineage.
How The Revenant Could Be Elden Ring Nightreign’s Unique Nightfarer
While instruments are present inElden Ringas blunt weapons with unique, magical Ashes of War, nowhere amongElden RingandShadow of the Erdtree’s hundreds of weaponswas there a pure instrument like the Revenant’s harp. Combined with this class specializing in Spirit Ashes somehow, there’s a chance that playing the Revenant won’t feel like playing any otherNightreigncharacter. Another leak has suggested that the Revenant, true to their name, is a necromancer with access to some ofElden Ring’s skeletal enemies, as well as enchantments. Considering that this leak also predicted the Executor’s name, it sounds like fans have plenty of familiar and novel experiences to look forward to inElden Ring Nightreign.
