Summary
Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destinyis about a new demon-slaying samurai: Jubei Yagyu. As a descendant of the Yagyu clan, Jubei swears vengeance onLord Nobunaga, who has been seen in many games, who sent demons to slay his clan. Along the way, Jubei will also be aided by Kotaro, Magoichi, Ekei, and Oyu, all of whom have their own weapons.
Their weapons will not be ranked, nor will Jubei’s starting katana, as it is only relevant for about five minutes in the prologue. Beyond that, players can find seven unique weapons for Jubei inOnimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny, with varying ammo types. These will be ranked based on power and usefulness, with no spoilers for those who have yet to finish the game.
7Bow
Shoot To Kill
Players can find the bow in the abandoned blacksmith shop in town. They will mostly find normal arrows for it, but there are fire-infused arrows as well, which will inflict more damage over time. While the bow is handy for taking care of annoying enemies that are impossible to reach, the drawback is slow. This will leave Jubei open to attacks easily from enemies firing arrows back and other types on the ground. So, unless it is necessary to use the bow, players probably won’t be using it that much, as it doesn’t reach the heights ofbows in other games.
6Tanegashima
A Powder Keg Ready To Blow
The Tanegashima is a rifle that is a better ranged weapon than the bow in any arrow form. Although it uses an old flintlock design, players can pop off shots quite rapidly. It doesn’t take as long to pull out and aim compared to the bow either.
Ammo is limited, which should not be that surprising fora horror game, even with its emphasis being on action over survival. If players are lucky and farm a good number of bullets, they can keep safe at a distance and fire shots at demons with ease inOnimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny.
5Rekka-Ken
A Fiery Greatsword
The Rekka-Ken is the very last weapon players will acquire in the game, and it’s a big fire-infused great sword. It’s also the strongest weapon in the game, but its use is limited. Players will earn it by going into the Phantom Realm optionally. From there, they can fight two bosses with Rekka-Ken afterward, and that’s it. Even though the Rekka-Ken does high damage and its ring of fire is cool to see, it shouldn’t rank that high beyond the ranged weapon. It’s only good in the story for about fifteen minutes, or more if players want to grind souls with it.
4Hyoujin-Yari
A Spear Tipped With Ice
The Hyoujin-Yari is a spear weapon that is infused with the power of ice. It will be the second one that players find in the game. It has a decent swipe pattern to take care of enemies on both the right and left sides of the screen. The range players can get with the jabbing motion means they will be at a safe striking distance too.
The best part of the Hyoujin-Yari is the ice attack, which will slam the spear down and create a small wave of ice to freeze enemies in place. While useful, this is the hardest special attack to aim. This forces players to waste a lot of magic energy when fighting, and no one wants to waste that when resources are precious ina horror game.
3Buraitou
A Katana With An Electric Edge
The Buraitou is the first weapon players will find in the game, replacing Jubei’s normal katana. This blade is faster and stronger than Jubei’s default weapon, plus it gets bigger the more players upgrade it.
The Buraitou is infused with lightning, so when players make contact with the blade, Jubei will begin a blitz of excessive jabs ending with a lightning call from above. When facing bosses or bigger enemies, this is the weapon to use since it is so focused on one-on-one battles. Sometimes enemies can get caught in the lightning blast’s crossfire, but it is hard to pull off compared to other attacks.Capcom has a long lineage of challenging bosses in their games, and the Buraitou inOnimusha 2: Samurai’s Destinyis like the vaccine.
2Dokoutsui
Smash Earth With This Hammer
The Dokoutsui is the final special weapon players will pick up, and it’s a big hammer.Every action gameneeds a powerful but slow weapon, and that’s exactly what the Dokoutsui is. It doesn’t have that tactile feedback the blade weapons get, but enemies will certainly fall faster with a strike from this massive weapon.
What makes the Dokoutsui truly worthwhile, though, is the special earth-based attack which will target every enemy onscreen with a powerful blow from below. It will even attack enemies on roofs, making the bow or gun obsolete. It doesn’t even use that much magic power, making it the best weapon to use against large crowds.
1Senpumaru
Doubled Bladed Wind Damage
The double-sided sword known as Senpumaru is the most well-rounded weapon in the game. It is a wind-based weapon that will create a tornado vortex starting where Jubei stands. It’s another good special to use against a group of enemies but more in a defensive manner. While it targets fewer enemies onscreen compared to the Dokoutsui, the Senpumaru is faster to use, and it will hit multiple enemies with just a normal attack. It’s one of the coolest weapons intheOnimushaseries, and once it unlocks, players may forget about the others for most encounters.
