Game of Thrones Star Recalls a “Humiliating” Moment on Set With Bella Ramsey

Talking to each other inInterview Magazine, 38-year-old Kit Harington, who playedJon Snow, the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen, recalled a scene in which the then-11-year-oldBella Ramsey, who played Lady Lyanna Mormont, gave him a huge helping hand when he forgot his lines where Jon asked Lady Mormont for soldiers in preparation for the Battle of the Bastards in Season 6. Ramsey said that they remembered that moment “quite vividly” and even though they have some remorse for it now, during that scene, Ramsey had to mouth Jon’s lines to him because he’d completely forgotten them.

“Now I’m like, “Oh my gosh, how awful.” But at the time, it came from a very innocent place of being like, “Kit’s struggling with his line and I know it, so let me just mouth it to him.”

Harington recalled the scene with embarrassment, saying, “I do remember you helping me out and it being quite humiliating. [Laughs] But yeah, thanks for that. I’ve probably chosen to forget it.” The actor went on to say Ramsey having to help him out was a bit of a wake-up call for him and that he needed to get his act together, as he felt that he had become a bit too cocky within his character. “If anything, I was like, ‘Oh god, I’ve got to up my game. I came here not really being comfortable enough with my lines, in the arrogance of however old I was, thinking I’m just opposite some child. And then that child actor is wiping me off the screen,’ he added. “Not that it’s a competition, but you’re like, ‘Oh, I’ve got a bit too comfortable in my Jon Snow-ness.'”

Ramsey also talked about howGame of Throneswas their very first job as a child actor, but they didn’t feel at all nervous stepping into the role on such a huge show because they had “no reference point” on what to expect, as they weren’t even sure if this was the career they wanted at the time.
