Summary
Genshin Impacthas officially unveiled Dahlia as a 4-star Hydro Sword, set to debut alongside Skirk in Version 5.7. Dahlia’s journey to become a playable character inGenshin Impacthas been longer than most. He was first mentioned during Rosaria’s drip marketing in Version 1.3, but fans have been aware of his playable status since the initial wave of Fontaine leaks two years ago. While his design changed somewhat, it’s fair to say that the community had high expectations for Dahlia as the second Mondstadt character since Version 1.5.
Unfortunately, first impressions of Dahlia’s ability kit inGenshin Impactleft many players disappointed. Whereas Mika carved a niche for himself as a valuable healer in Eula and Wriothesley’s teams, Dahlia seems to struggle with finding an identity. His off-field Hydro application is subpar, his Shield strength is weak, his energy cost is intense, and his Attack Speed buff isn’t any better than what Mika already provides. While ability kits can change during beta testing, it’s fair to say thatGenshin Impactfans expected more from Dahlia.
That being said, HoYoverse officially revealed Dahlia as the upcoming 4-star character of Version 5.7 via drip marketing on Reddit. From a narrative standpoint, he left a memorable impression on players during the events of Version 5.6. Despite being a high-ranking member of the Church of Favonius,Dahlia inGenshin Impactis a carefree spirit who enjoys a good drink. In that sense, he is perfect as the Herald of Barbatos.
Genshin Impact: Who is Dahlia?
Dahlia is designed to be a 4-star Hydro Sword character from Mondstadt, with an ability kit that focuses on two things: Shield Support and Attack Speed. On paper, he could be a good teammate forGenshin Impactcharacterslike Wriothesley, Yoimiya, or Ayato. In practice, he requires a decent number of buffs to be competitive against other Supports. He’s expected to accompany Skirk and Emilie on the Event Banners in the first half of Version 5.7, despite having very little synergy with either of the two 5-stars.
Despite the community’s first impressions, there are a few gems hidden in Dahlia’s ability kit, such as being able to resurrect fallen party members at C6. Ultimately, players should keep a close watch on the beta servers for Version 5.7 and allow theorycrafters enough time to weigh Dahlia’s value should any new changes arrive. For now, he may end up being a useful character for any new account, but doesn’t bring enough to the table to compete against other Hydro orSupport characters inGenshin Impact. Version 5.7 is set to launch on June 14, 2025.
