Varka is a name inGenshin Impactthat has made an appearance in the story multiple times. To put it simply, he’s a legend among legends, and one of the most mysterious characters in Mondstadt.Genshin Impactplayers were first introduced to him during the Prologue of the Archon Quest, and since then, his name has popped up here and there.
Whether it’s through the main story or random character interactions, he’s an important figure in Mondstadt that has left the fanbase with many questions. He’s also an extremely influential figure, and as players dive back intoMondstadt in Version 5.6, it’s safe to say they’ll finally get their first interaction with him. Here’s everything you need to know about Varka and who he is to the citizens of Mondstadt.
Who Is Varka In Genshin Impact?
Varka is the Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius. In case players didn’t know, this is why Jean’s title is ‘Acting’ Grand Master, as she took over Varka’s duties after he left on an expedition. Varka seems to have left on an important expedition six months ago, with over 70% of the Knights of Favonius’ soldiers. It’s because of his command over Mondstadt’s army that he holds significance among its citizens.
Regrettably, most of the Traveler’s knowledge of Varka comes through letters or NPCs commenting on his achievements in the city and outside. It’s from this that players find out that Varka is one of the strongest fighters Mondstadt has, and his absence puts the city at a great disadvantage. Despite this, many citizens are still rooting for his safety during this long expedition and await to see the fruits of his mission.
Why Is Varka On An Expedition?
Around six months prior to the Traveler landing in Teyvat, Varka left on an expedition with over 70% of Mondstadt’s war forces. Many players have speculated on the absurdity behind such a mission, especially since Mondstadt was having trouble with Dvalin’s corruption during that time. However,Jean and most of the Knights of Favoniusbelieved it was a necessary decision Varka had to make. There has been no confirmation of why Varka was sent on this mission, butGenshin Impactplayers do know that he’s currently on his way to Nod-Krai (a sub-region of Snezhnaya).
Additionally, it seems that while Varka was on his expedition, he encountered Capitano at some point in time. He had mentioned that whilst Capitano was one of the strongest Fatui Harbingers, he was a cut above the rest purely due to his more reasonable nature. He described him as someone who wasn’t hostile, but was brave enough to question the gods about their views and combat.Genshin Impactplayers find this snippet of information from Mika, who had also been traveling with Varka on the expedition. Varka decided to send Mika back to Mondstadt with a letter detailing the success of the expedition. It is here that players find out that the expedition’s purpose is to do with a ‘secret’ from the past.
Varka’s Background & Character Information
So far, all the facts players know about Varka are from character stories and little snippets of the Archon Story. One memorable thing about Varka is his unrivaled strength. He’s been recognized byEula (a Knight Captain), as well as Tartaglia (a Fatui Harbinger). He’s referred to as a ‘Titan’ by Tartaglia, something similar to a genius with a longsword on the battlefield. Bennett has mentioned multiple times how he admires Varka’s leadership and skillful ability to recruit the right Knights for his order.
Something manyGenshin Impactplayers might not be aware of is Varka’s other title. Despite being known as the Grand Master, he was also given the name Knight of Boreas. This is because Andrius (The Wolf of the North) was once his friend and companion. There is not much information on how he got this title, except for the long-standing friendship the two of them had until Andrius died. This is why the weapon, Wolf’s Gravestone, exists. It was a weapon that Varka once used, but after Andrius’ death, he used it to bury his friend, and thus the greatsword was called ‘Wolf’s Gravestone.’ This is the same sword that players will see before the boss fight starts.
Varka and Razor
Varka and Razor have a much closer relationship than one might think. It’s in Razor’s Character Story thatGenshin Impactplayers get another snippet of Varka and goodwill. Varka was actually the one who brought Razor to Mondstadt City from Wolvendom and gave him food, clothes, and a weapon. It might also be important to know that Varkagave Razor his name.The two of them have something similar to a father-son relationship, in part because Varka knew Razor’s parents before they passed.
It might be fate that led Varka into the forest that night, because if he hadn’t been there, he would never have been able to pass Razor’s parents' possessions on to him. It is through an event story thatGenshin Impactplayers find out that Varka had addressed a letter to Lisa, telling her to open up a box in his office that contained various memories of Razor’s parents. It’s also here that we get to finally see what Razor’s parents looked like and what exactly happened to them.
