Summary

An industry insider believes Ubisoft could show up to the live Summer Game Fest showcase with the reveal of the nextTom Clancy’s Ghost Reconinstallment. Once one of Ubisoft’s premier game series throughout the 2000s and early 2010s,Tom Clancy’s Ghost Reconhas taken somewhat of a backseat since 2019’sBreakpointdisappointed. Ubisoft did formally announce a free-to-play PvP live serviceGhost Recongame known asFrontlinesin 2021 before it was canceled months later.

Summer Game Fest is right around the cornerand, as usual, there’s a ton to be excited about. There are currently three events locked in with more to be confirmed in the coming days and weeks leading up to the kickoff on June 6. Geoff Keighley’s own Summer Game Fest showcase will get the ball rolling and will be immediately followed by Day of the Devs, the annual indie showcase led by Double Fine Productions' Tim Schafer. Xbox is set to follow two days later on June 8 and is looking to have another mind-blowing event just like its show last June. This time, Obsidian Entertainment’s second major 2025 RPG,The Outer Worlds 2,will have its own 30-minute Direct once Xbox’s showcase concludes.

It seems Ubisoft’s Summer Game Fest plans might be looking a bit different than they have in the past few years. On Twitter, industry insider Detective Seeds has expressed uncertainty about Ubisoft holding its own live Ubisoft Forward showcase this year, going further to say that the French gaming giant could unveil the nextGhost Recongame on Geoff Keighley’s SGF stage instead. Whether Seeds is referring to aresurrection ofGhost Recon: Frontlinesor an entirely new non-PvP title isn’t exactly clear, but they mention that the game is deep in development.

New Ghost Recon Game Could Be Revealed at Summer Game Fest Showcase

Ubisoft seems to be in a strange spot at the moment. With its heaviest hitters inStar Wars OutlawsandAssassin’s Creed Shadowsalready having been released and no sign of theSplinter Cell, Assassin’s Creed 4,orPrince of Persia: The Sands of Timeremakes, Ubisoft might not have enough titles that are set to release within the next year to warrant having an entire Ubisoft Forward showcase this summer. Holding a live event to announce one major newgame wouldn’t be a good idea, so dishing out the potentialGhost Reconreveal to Keighley’s SGF stage would make more sense. When asked about theheavily rumoredFar Cry 7, Detective Seeds didn’t have much to share, indicating the open-world FPS might not be ready to be shown just yet, bolstering Ubisoft’s rumored decision to not hold a Forward.

Whether Detective Seeds turns out to be right will remain to be seen, as it’s entirely possible Ubisoft still has a Forward showcase lined up with a number of the aforementioned titles ready to finally be shown off. Summer Game Fest begins on June 6, with the SGF showcase kicking off at 5 PM Eastern Time. If Ubisoft does confirm a Ubi Forward, it’ll likely take place the day after Xbox’s showcase, as has been standard forSummer Game Fest’s schedulein prior years.
