Summary

Legendary Pictures recently announced thatthe sixth film in the Monsterverse is already in production, and its official title isGodzilla x Kong: Supernova. Naturally, fans of these two iconic giant monsters are thrilled about the prospect of seeing them join forces once again to take down an even bigger threat.

This announcement is particularly interesting because of the film’s subtitle:Supernova, which may hint that Godzilla and Kong will have to face a powerful villainous monster from outer space. This word alone was enough to make Kaiju fans speculate about which classic monsters from theGodzillafranchisecould appear in this upcoming movie. The following are some of the most likely (and most exciting) examples.

8Shimo

Kong’s New Friend Could Be Useful In Battle

While the Monsterverse has its fair share of original monsters, most of them are not strong enough to face an extraterrestrial threat, either by themselves or with the help of both Godzilla and Kong. There is one exception, however. That would be none other thanShimo, the cryokinetic titan that was being controlled by Skar King inGodzila x Kong: The New Empire.

With her destructive ice-based powers, Shimo could be incredibly useful in a fight against a powerful villain. Not to mention, she was mind-controlled for most of her life and Godzilla and Kong rescued her at the very end of the last film. It would be amazing to see her voluntarily helping out her newfound allies.

7Gigan

A Cool-Looking Cyborg Kaiju Who’s Beloved By Fans

Giganis one of the most popular alien kaiju in theGodzillafranchise, mainly due to his cool-looking cybernetic enhancements, his ruthless personality, and his violent fighting style. Despite the questionable quality of his debut film,Godzilla vs. Gigan, he has become an icon in the Tokusatsu genre and many fans have been asking for his return.

Godzilla x Kong: Supernovamay deliver on that promise by featuring Gigan as one of its main antagonists. His extraterrestrial origins mean he would be perfect for that role. But which design would Legendary Pictures use as inspiration? Would he be green and yellow like in his original appearance? Would he have grappling hooks and chainsaw hands like inGodzilla Final Wars? Maybe he would be similar to the most powerful incarnation of the character, Gigan Rex, from the 2022 short film,Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex.

6Hedorah

A Powerful Polluting Monster From Outer Space

Godzillafans have been clamoring for the return ofHedorahfor decades, andGodzilla x Kong: Supernovamay be the perfect excuse to finally bring him back. Hedorah is an alien parasite who grew into a big and powerful sludge creature after feeding on the earth’s pollution, back in 1971. A modern adaptation of the character has the potential to be even darker, more nuanced, and more powerful.

There’s a possibility that Hedorah will appear in the upcomingGodzilla Minus Onesequel, but it would also be fascinating to see a Western studio trying to bring it to life, especially with the advanced CGI special effects that the Monsterverse is known for. A well-done modern incarnation of Hedorah has the potential to become a true obstacle for both Godzilla and Kong.

5Orga

This Alien Doppelgänger Needs To Be The Villain Of Another Movie

Orga, the main villain ofGodzilla 2000: Millennium, is one of the most underused kaiju in theGodzillafranchise.Despite appearing in just one film, it had an impact on fans. Audiences were shocked by Orga’s ability to replicate Godzilla’s cells and become a powerful, imperfect clone of the King of the Monsters.

Due to its immense physique, intimidating design, and unpredictable powers, Orga has become a fan-favorite, especially after appearing as an antagonist in video games likeGodzilla: Save the EarthandGodzilla: Unleashed. It’s time for this doppelgänger to make a comeback.Godzilla x Kong: Supernovawould be the perfect place for that, especially if Legendary Pictures maintains its origins as a hulking monstrosity that was created when an ancient alien civilization absorbed Godzilla’s cells.

4Destoroyah

Godzilla’s Deadliest Enemy Should Make A Proper Comeback

If Godzilla and Kong do end up facing an extraterrestrial threat inGodzilla x Kong: Supernova, this would mean that they will most likely fight their most dangerous enemy yet. As a result, the stakes would be much higher than usual. When it comes to discussing dangerousGodzillamonsters,Destoroyahcomes up often, which proves that he may be the main antagonist of this upcoming movie.

Destroyah appeared in just one movie and yet, it was enough to cement him as one of Godzilla’s biggest and most dangerous opponents. He almost killed the King of the Monsters and successfully killed his son, Godzilla Jr. The only thing that may prevent Destoroyah from appearing inGodzilla x Kong: Supernovais the fact that he’s not actually an alien. Instead, he’s the reincarnation of the Oxygen Destroyer that killed Godzilla in the original 1954 movie. However, Legendary Pictures could change his backstory if they want to use him.

3A Member Of The Ghidorah Family

The Most Iconic Alien Monsters In The Series

King Ghidorah, one of the biggest icons of the Kaiju genre and Godzilla’s infamous arch-enemy, is actually an alien monster. This element of the character was maintained when he appeared in 2019’sGodzilla: King of the Monsters. However, that’s precisely why he may not end up reappearing inGodzilla x Kong: Supernova.Godzilla killed him relatively recently, and it would feel cheap for him to come back to life so soon.

However, it’s always possible thatLegendary Pictures may decide to use another member of the Ghidorah family. Someone, either humans or aliens, could modify the remains of King Ghidorah to turn him into the cyborgMecha-King Ghidorah. Another extraterrestrial being could arrive on Earth to take revenge on Godzilla for killing their kin, likeMonster X/Keizer GhidorahorDesghidorah. Furthermore, if Legendary Pictures gets permission from Toho, the studio may even attempt to create its own original Ghidorah monster.

2SpaceGodzilla

This Powerful Classic Kaiju Is The Most Likely Candidate

Like Destoroyah and Orga,SpaceGodzillais an incredibly powerful monster who became a fan favorite, even though he only appeared in one film. This is not much of a surprise, however, considering he’s a massive alien clone of Godzilla who can create and manipulate giant crystals and even has psychic abilities.Godzillafans spent years asking Toho to bring him back for a new project, and there are signs that indicateGodzilla x Kong: Supernovamay feature his long-awaited return.

For starters, a supernova is a massive explosion that often results in the creation of a black hole. In his debut film, SpaceGodzilla was born when Godzilla’s cells fell into a black hole. On top of that, fans are theorizing that other elements of the movie’s official announcement (like the colors of the logo or the binary code found in the footage) are also hinting that SpaceGodzilla will be the main antagonist. He’s always portrayed as a powerful but intelligent monster, so it would take Godzilla and Kong a lot of effort to face, let alone defeat him.

1A New Monsterverse Original Monster

Legendary Pictures May Once Again Create Its Own Villain

One of the many positive things about the existence of the Monsterverse is that it has allowed Legendary Pictures to create new monsters that have already added a lot to theGodzillamythos. Most of the movies in this cinematic universe have featured a brand-new original villain, like the MUTOs, the Skullcrawlers, and Skar King.Godzilla x Kong: Supernovamay continue this tradition.

There’s always a possibility thatLegendary Pictures may decide to create itsown extraterrestrial titanfor Godzilla and Kong to face in this upcoming film. This would be interesting, considering that all of its previous original creations were more conventional monsters that resided on either Earth or Hollow Earth. If the studio’s talented designers step out of their comfort zone, this may result in a fascinating and creative new antagonist. However, as interesting as this may be, most fans are hoping that they’ll actually get permission from Toho to utilize a pre-existingGodzillamonster instead, which would be much more exciting.
