A few days after Rockstar Games announced the delay ofGrand Theft Auto 6from late 2025 to May 14, 2025, the publisher released a second trailer, screenshots, and other information about the highly anticipated action-adventure game. Captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5, featuring both gameplay and cutscene clips, the newGrand Theft Auto 6trailer follows protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as the two strive to find a new life in the extravagant, crime-filled Vice City in the state of Leonida. The trailer and other new media further highlight several new regions of Leonida, including one thatRed Dead Redemption 2fans may especially enjoy: Mount Kalaga National Park.
Grand Theft Auto 6’s Mount Kalaga Explained
Located along Leonida’s northern border, Mount Kalaga is a relatively society-free area of the state save for a few roads, railways, and abandoned structures such as mining depots. Unlike the bustling urban streets, coastline, and skyscrapers of Vice City, Mount Kalaga is an area where players can explore some of the few truly natural areas of Leonida filled with forests, rivers, and canyons. Just likeLos Santos’ Mount Chiliadand its neighboring hills, players can find and hunt a variety of wildlife on Mount Kalaga, including alligators, deer, panthers, raccoons, and more. With Leonida being based on Florida and Mount Kalaga being located on Leonida’s northern border, Kalaga is believed to be based on Providence Canyon State Park, which borders Florida from southwestern Georgia.
However, Mount Kalaga isn’t entirely vacant of human activity. Many tourists and Leonida residents visit the national park to hunt wildlife, fish in its rivers, go kayaking, and hike along its many off-road trails. Players can further encounter muddy ATV and dirt bike races near some of Mount Kalaga’s abandoned structures. Some Leonidans have even taken up a permanent residence among Mount Kalaga’s forests, including “hillbilly mystics and paranoid radicals” striving to avoid recognition and intervention from the government. However, allvisitors to Mount Kalagamust remain cautious around heavy rainstorms as the national park’s rivers have been known to reach six feet in height during flash floods.
So far Rockstar has revealed six regions inGrand Theft Auto 6’s state of Leonida, including Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga National Park.
Given howGrand Theft Auto 6is the latest game Rockstar has developed since 2018’sRed Dead Redemption 2, it’s possible some of the wildlife and nature-focused activities from the Western game could appear inGTAnext.Grand Theft Auto 5did feature a host of animalsplayers could encounter, from common dogs to orcas and great white sharks, but most of them didn’t really offer any exceptional gameplay value save for Chop the Rottweiler. Players could hunt, crash into, or run over deer, mountain lions, cows, pigs, and several other animals, but they couldn’t be skinned or have their meat and bones sold in markets.
WithGrand Theft Auto 6having a Florida-inspired setting likely filled with similar invasive species, the game could let players take part in hunting competitions to get rid of invasive animals such as anacondas, pythons and wild hogs in Mount Kalaga. Some invasive animals could be caught and sold as pets, similar in structure toRed Dead Redemption 2’s Wildlife Art Exhibitionactivity. Players could additionally fish along Mount Kalaga’s rivers, possibly using the fish as bait for other animals, as a display in a home aquarium, or for food in potential cooking mini-games instead of using them for crafting resources as seen inRed Dead Redemption 2.
Potential Legendary Animal Encounters in GTA 6
InRed Dead Redemption 2, players could encounter and hunt several rare legendary animals throughout the southwestern United States in single player and multiplayer. Hunting and skinning these rare beasts would allow players to craft or purchase exceptional clothing with special perks. WithGrand Theft Auto 6focusing in part on social media and influencer culture, Rockstar could introduce a similar activity toRed Dead Redemption 2’s legendary animalsbut instead have players take pictures of rare animals to boost their social media presence. This could allow more unique animals to still appear inGrand Theft Auto 6despite its more modern setting and showcase a more peaceful way to interact with animals beyond hunting them.
