After what always feels like a long wait, though it hardly ever is, another premium Warbond is now available inHelldivers 2. This new Masters of Ceremony Warbond expands the selection of melee weapons in the game and adds some of the most stylish armor, capes, and helmets yet, though the most notable addition in this new Warbond inHelldivers 2is arguably the new grenade: the G-142 Pyrotech.

Although throwable weapons inHelldivers 2have some tough competition among the existing meta, players shouldn’t underestimate the new Pyrotech grenade fromHelldivers 2’s Masters of Ceremony Warbond. For players who can master the unique behavior of this grenade to unleash its full potential, it can be a new meta pick for high-difficulty operations, especially thanks to the recent balancing changes fromHelldivers 2’s Galactic Emergency updatethat affect Fire Elemental damage.

Pyrotech Grenade’s Weaknesses

The default carrying capacity for the Pyrotech grenade is 6, though players can hold two additional Pyrotech grenades while wearing body armor with theEngineering Kit armor passive.

Helldivers 2’s Recent Fire Damage Balancing Changes Work in the Pyrotech Grenade’s Favor

Among other balancing changes introduced inHelldivers 2’s latest update, Fire elemental damage was recently changed. Now, the amount/frequency of Fire attacks needed to set an enemy on Fire depends on the size of the enemy unit, with larger enemies being more difficult to set on Fire. However, the amount of damage that enemies take from Fire DoT (damage-over-time) is also dependent on their size, with larger enemies taking more Fire DoT than smaller enemies.

Overall, this change is both a buff and a nerf forFire loadouts inHelldivers 2, since it enhances weapons like theFLAM-40 Flamethrowerthat rapidly deal high amounts of Fire damage, while it’s a downgrade for weaker Fire weapons like theLas-5 Scytheand theLAS-7 Dagger. Since the new Pyrotech Grenade falls in the former category of Fire weapons, this balancing change works in favor of the new throwable weapon to make it a stronger alternative to the Incendiary Impact grenade.

Helldivers 2’s New Pyrotech Grenade Is a Middle-Ground Between the Incendiary Impact and the Thermite Meta

The new Pyrotech grenade provides similar utility as theG-13 Incendiary Impactgrenade, except it’s capable of a higher damage output when used properly. The Incendiary Impact has the benefit of convenience, since the majority of its damage is dealt in a single instance when it explodes, whereas the Pyrotech grenade’s damage comes from several instances of Fire damage that are unleashed before the grenade eventually explodes. Because the Pyrotech grenade can move uncontrollably, and enemies can walk outside of its range before its full damage is unleashed, this makes the Pyrotech grenade slightly more difficult to utilize in comparison. So, while it has a higher damage output than the Incendiary Impact grenade, this is balanced out by requiring a higher skill investment to consistently get the full damage out of each grenade.

Compared to theG-123 Thermite Grenade, to no surprise, the new Pyrotech grenade is much weaker. Ultimately, the Thermite grenade remains the best for single-target damage amongthrowable weapons inHelldivers 2, though the new Pyrotech grenade is arguably second for single-target damage, and otherwise, arguably the new best-in-class for all-around ad-clear and utility.
