A new premium Warbond is available inHelldivers 2, just in time for players to fight the biggest threat to Managed Democracy of the Galactic War so far. Not long after the Illuminate faction joined the Galactic War inHelldivers 2, these aliens are now coming for Super Earth with new, tougher reinforcements, so players will want to bring their best weapons and Stratagems in this time of need. Hence, the arguable lack of firepower in the newMasters of Ceremony premium Warbondthat was released during this invasion makes it an oddity.

The initial few Warbonds inHelldivers 2didn’t include a core type of Stratagem, like a sentry, vehicle, backpack, orbital, or Eagle strike, but this has become a trend among recent Warbonds. So, with the new Masters of Ceremony Warbond breaking this pattern by not including a new core type of Stratagem, this makes the new Warbond stand out. Ultimately, while the new melee weapons fromHelldivers 2’s Masters of Ceremony Warbond are a welcome addition, they may not be worth prioritizing over other, more necessary additions to players’ arsenal, especially given the current extreme climate of the Galactic War.

Helldivers 2’s Masters of Ceremony Warbond is a Double-Edged Sword

One True Flag is a Game-Changer for Melee Builds in Helldivers 2

AfterHelldivers 2’s Constitution offered the first melee weapon via the bayonet on the end of the gun, players have naturally been eager to have an expanded variety of melee weapons in the game. With the new Masters of Ceremony Warbond offering the first-ever melee weapon capable of piercing medium armor, this new Warbond takesmelee builds inHelldivers 2to the next level.

Masters of Ceremony Warbond’s Lack of a Core Stratagem Comes at an Unfortunate Time

Ever sinceHelldivers 2’s Chemical AgentsWarbondwas the first to include a Stratagem, this set a precedent for what players could expect from future Warbonds. Despite being controversial at the time, the majority of Warbonds released after Chemical Agentshave included their own core type of Stratagem, except for Truth Enforcers, and the newest Warbond, Masters of Ceremony. While the Masters of Ceremony Warbond includes the new CQC-1 One True Flag support weapon Stratagem, this niche melee weapon arguably pales in comparison to the Strategems from other recent Warbonds, like the B-100 Portable Hellbomb, M-102 Fast Recon Vehicle, and the LIFT-860 Hover Pack, which have generally paved the path for new meta loadouts inHelldivers 2.

Under normal circumstances,Helldivers 2’s Warbonds lacking a new, proper Stratagem wouldn’t be such a big deal, but Masters of Ceremony breaking this pattern comes at a rather unfortunate time in the overall Galactic War. With theIlluminate enemy faction threatening to invade Super Earth, the general lack of firepower inHelldivers 2’s Masters of Ceremony Warbond arguably makes it feel out of place in the game’s ongoing story. So, even with a new medium armor-penetrating melee weapon, melee builds inHelldivers 2aren’t exactly viable on high-difficulty missions. And since players will naturally gravitate towards higher-difficulty missions for the benefit of improved liberation efforts and increased rewards, the timing ofHelldivers 2adding new melee weapons right now is far from ideal.

Helldivers 2’s Newest Warbond May Not Be For Everyone

The lack of a proper Stratagem in the new Masters of Ceremony Warbond and focus on melee weapons is especially important to consider for players who are still progressing through the game, as it might be worth prioritizing unlocking other premium Warbonds first. Thankfully, though,Helldivers 2’s Warbonds are permanentadditions to the game, so there’s no rush to grab a Warbond immediately when it comes out, and players can still unlock powerful core Stratagems from the other existing Warbonds to combat the Illuminate offense.
