Summary
It seems as though the upcomingHogwarts Legacysequel will be “coordinating” storylines with theHarry PotterHBO TV series.Hogwarts Legacy 2has not been officially unveiled just yet, but its existence has been acknowledged by executives. The runaway success of the original meant that aHogwarts Legacy 2was always a matter of when, not if, anyway, though it remains to be seen when more substantial information will come out about the game.
Hogwarts Legacywas the best-selling game of 2023, marking a rare year when Activision’sCall of Dutywas beat for the top spot. The game was a massive commercial hit and earned mostly positive reviews from fans and critics alike. Many are anxious to see whatHogwarts Legacy 2will have in store, and while specifics are still unavailable, it seems as though it will have some kind of synergy with theHarry PotterTV series.
Last year, prior to David Haddad leaving Warner Bros. Games, the exec told Varietythat theHogwarts Legacysequel will be coordinating some of the “big-picture storytelling elements” of the game with the storylines in theHarry PotterHBO series. It’s unclear exactly what this means, but it’s possible it may provide some insight into whenHogwarts Legacy 2will be set.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 ‘Coordinating’ With HBO Series
There has been speculation lately aboutHogwarts Legacy 2’s setting. The originalHogwarts Legacyis set in the late 1800s, which meant that the vast majority of recognizableHarry Potterfranchise characters were off the table when it came to its story. However, arecent Avalanche Software job listinghas suggested thatHogwarts Legacy 2will feature more established characters from theHarry Pottercanon. Considering this, and Haddad’s comments from last year, it’s entirely possible thatHogwarts Legacy 2will take place around the same time as theHarry Potterbooks and movies. Of course, that’s just speculation at this time, and it’s entirely possible - and perhaps even more likely - thatHogwarts Legacy 2will go with a different time period.
Taking place concurrently with theHarry Potterbooks and movies would be interesting, but it would also create all kinds of problems and potentialHogwarts Legacy 2plot holes. It seems like it would make more sense forHogwarts Legacy 2to be set shortly after the events of the first game or in the decades betweenHogwarts Legacy 1and the start of theHarry Potterbooks and movies. Unfortunately, theHogwarts Legacysequel is likely years away from release, so it will be quite some time before we have more context for Haddad’s comments.
