The rumor mill around the much-anticipated Metroidvania has started to kick into high gear again after a stretch of relative silence. On the morning of May 1,IGNconfirmed thatSilksongwill be playable at ACMI, Australia’s national museum of screen culture, starting September 18 of this year. This will be part of an exhibition called Game Worlds, which will run until February 2026 and showcase concept art and interactive displays from 30 games, spanning the decades from the 1970s until today. That includes hundreds ofSilksongsprites, a look at the gameplay logic behind its boss fights, and, most importantly, a playable copy of the game. Some leaks suggest thatSilksongcould come out by June 2025, so it’s entirely possible that fans can get their hands on the title before the Game Worlds exhibit opens up, but without an official release date, that’s uncertain.

Hollow Knight: Silksong Will Be Playable in an Australian Museum Exhibit in September 2025

The version ofSilksongavailable in the exhibit may not be the full game, either. Theofficial ACMI Game Worlds announcementrefers to “playable demos,” implying that the games it features won’t be their full versions, which makes sense for a museum. It’s also hard to tell what the announcement means for theHollow Knightsequel’s actual release day. It’s rumored thatSilksongwill get coverage during the Xbox Games Showcaseon June 8, so fans may get some more information if a new trailer premieres then, but that, too, is up in the air.

Regardless of the specifics,Hollow Knight: Silksongis potentially coming out sometime this year, and at least a portion of it will be playable in September for fans near ACMI. Team Cherry has also confirmed thatKickstarter backers will getSilksongcodes for their platforms of choicebefore the game releases.
