The moment you’re able to, discovering as many of these areas as possible should be an absolute priority.
The Falling Leaves area inClair Obscur: Expedition 33is one such place, as there you can find an elusive boss known simply as theScavengerand the quest that leads to him. If you’re not surehow to complete the “Lady of Sap” quest or how to beat the Scavenger optional boss, this guide can help with all that it entails.
How to Unlock Scavenger Boss in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
The Scavenger is an optional boss found in theFalling Leavesarea of The Continent, which is located in the far northwest region of the map (near the Floating Cemetery). To reach it, you need to have unlocked theCoral Breaking ability for Esquie.
Once there, talk to the Gestral near the entrance, who will mention a foe up ahead that’s wiped out countless expeditioners. The foe in question isthe Scavenger, but its location is not immediately accessible, due to it being locked behind a gate with aYoung BoyNPC guarding it. To get past the gate, you first need to find a much, much larger NPC calledthe Lady of Sap. You may very well stumble across her first while exploring the area (don’t worry, she’s not a boss enemy).
How to Get Lady of Sap to Talk
Walk up to the Lady of Sap and interact with her. You’ll notice that she doesn’t give any kind of response (for now), as you’ll need to do something else first. However, before you leave the area, make sure to visitthe Manor Door toher left(seen above).
Follow the path out of the area to the east and climb up the cliffside to continue onward. At the fork ahead, ignore the bridge to the left that leads to the Chromatic Ballet encounter and instead run straight ahead and then take the next left, where you should see the Young Boy standing in front of a set of double doors.
Talk to him and he’ll speak vaguely about the Lady of Sap, pondering why she chose to kill so many people. He’ll ask your party to speak to her to find out why. From there, immediately return to the Lady of Sap’s location and interact with her again.
After a couple of dialogue attempts, she’ll finally say, “I do it for him. I do it for us. To respect what he created, what we created.” After her answer, she’ll go quiet again, and now you need to return to the Young Boy with her answer.
Talk to him once you reach him, and he implores you to help stop her. With that, he’ll open the doors behind him. Follow the singular path upward and take the rope all the way up to the peak where the Scavenger boss is waiting. Also, make sure to grab theExpedition 49 Journalon the stairs before you start the encounter.
How to Defeat Scavenger Boss in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Upon reaching the platform at the top of the stairs, a cutscene will play, and the Scavenger will appear before the party, triggering the start of the fight.
One thing to note outright is that this boss specializes in Dark-element attacks, meaning that you want toprioritize using Light-element weaponsand attacksto exploit his weakness. Otherwise, while he’s resistant to it, you can still brandish some Fire-element attacks to inflict Burn stacks which will help melt his HP on top of your party’s attacks.
As his health gets lower, the Scavenger will gradually change the background around him to dusk and eventually to night. Once it reaches that point, the Scavenger will employ sneak attacks from the darkness that you have to closely watch for and dodge several times.
He’ll also summon a series of masks around him to employ a ranged attack that will inflict theDizzy status ailment, which temporarily makes it harder for characters to aim at their target. It might be tempting to try and take out the masks, but you’re honestly better off just focusing on the Scavenger himself.
Once defeated, the battle will reward you with theLevel 14 Scaverim weapon (Dark-element) for Luneand 3 xResplendent Chroma Catalyst.
Before you leave the Falling Leaves area entirely, be sure to return to the Young Boy afterward, as he’ll have the’Until Next Life’music recordto give you as an additional reward.
