The Continent inClair Obscur: Expedition 33features an impressive and formidable variety of optional bosses for players to flex their skills against. Some give a good challenge that can be overcome with decent builds, while others present the most ambitious battles that the game has to offer.
One that falls in the latter category inClair Obscur: Expedition 33is the Chromatic Petank. If you’re looking to take on the alpha of Petank bosses, then you’ll need to know where to find it and the best strategy to vanquish it.
How To Find Chromatic Petank In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
While other Petanks are usually hidden within story-related locations around the Continent, theChromatic Petankis a special exception. You’ll find this unique Petank boss in the overworld, on thesoutheastern side of the mapin a wooded area that can only be accessed withEsquie’s flying ability. The nearest notable landmarks are the Gestral Breach and Flying Casino a short distance to the northwest.
Just as with other Petanks, to engage a battle with the Chromatic Petank, you’ll need tousher it toward its special platform, which is also in the overworld. Since it moves so quickly, it’s highly recommended todo this while flying on Esquie.
As seen above, you’ll need to herd the Chromatic Petank a considerable distance south, through the water and back onto land. Guide it north along the narrow path until it finally comes to a stop on its platform at the base of agiant face statue.
Before you engage the fight, make sure to prepare your party accordingly as, similarly to other Chromatic-tier bosses in the game, this Petank encounter is no pushover.
How To Beat Chromatic Petank In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
As with other endgame encounters inClair Obscur: Expedition 33, having a solid,high-level buildis paramount for beating the Chromatic Petank; otherwise, you may find yourself unable to make much of a dent in its shell while it pummels you with attacks and status ailments.
Ideally, you should wait to engage this boss until your party is at leastnearly max level. The main reason being that the Chromatic Petank employs a punishing strategy for staying alive, and if you don’t have enough firepower in your party, the fight can last indefinitely — or worse, back you into a corner of defeat.
Unlike other Petanks in the game, the Chromatic Petank will not flee from the battle at any point. While that’s certainly a relief, the real challenge of this fight comes in the two Petank minions that the boss will summon to aid it. These minions can be devastating nuisances to your party, as their job is to not only attack but alsobuff themselveswith numerous shields and inflict a variety ofstatus ailmentsthat can last several turns (unless you have Pictos to counter them).
If Exhaust manages to stick to your entire party, it’ll make the fight even more difficult than it already is.
The Chromatic Petank and its minions also boastobnoxiously high speed, so if you don’t have the stats to counter it, they’ll be able to take multiple turns before you even get a hit in.
There are two main strategies to consider for this fight. One is to eliminate this line of defense as quickly as possible, becausethe minions themselves will flee within three turns. This may seem beneficial, but when one Petank minion does flee, upon exploding, it will give nearly300,000 HP of healing to the Chromatic Petank. This can effectively erase most or all of the damage progress you’ve made, if you’re not careful.
If you have high enough damage to take the minions out within the first turn or so, then that can create openings for damage on the Chromatic Petank before it summons more minions, and it allows you to avoid those pesky status ailments.
The other, likely better, strategy is to simply use exceptionally high damage output to kill the Chromatic Petank outright before the minions have their chance to fully heal the boss. Prioritize your builds with as much damage as possible, from your regular offensive abilities to your Counterattacks (buffing your parry counters with Pictos like ‘Augmented Counter’ is incredibly useful). Amplify your speed to ensure you get enough turns in before the boss and the Petank minions become a real problem.
