Forced Evidence is a feature in Nightmare and other evidence-limiting modes inPhasmophobia, where players must identify the ghost with fewer confirmed clues than normal. In this mode, gathering evidence becomes more challenging, and players must rely heavily on behavior, abilities, and hidden traits to make an accurate guess.
This guide explains how Forced Evidence works, what to expect when evidence is missing, and key strategies to still pin down the ghost type. Learning these techniques will make even the toughest investigations manageable inPhasmophobia, no matter how little the ghost reveals.
What is Forced Evidence in Phasmophbia?
Modes withharder difficulty settings such as Nightmare, Insanity, and some custom setups increase the challenge by limiting the amount of available evidence. Normally, each ghost leaves behind three different types of evidence. However, in Nightmare mode, one type is hidden at random, and in Insanity mode, two types are hidden, leaving players with only a single confirmed clue. This forces investigators to rely less on pure evidence and more on deduction.
Forced Evidencerefers to evidence types that certain ghosts will always provide, regardless of mode. This happens because of their abilities or traits, which directly relate to a specific kind of evidence. For example, a Goryo’s ability to onlyshow itself through D.O.T.S.when observed via camera guarantees that it always has D.O.T.S. evidence.
Understanding which ghosts have Forced Evidence and how to confirm or eliminate possibilities becomes critical for surviving and succeeding on higher difficulties.
How to Find Forced Evidence in Phasmophobia
Players must use the correct tools to uncover Forced Evidence:
TheMimicis a special case. Itmimics other ghosts' behaviorsand can even produce “fake” Ghost Orbs, regardless of how much evidence is supposed to appear.
Always treat any sighting of Ghost Orbs with suspicion until you’re able to rule out a Mimic by finding non-mimic evidence like EMF Level 5 or D.O.T.S.
Learning the behaviors associated with Forced Evidence is just as important as gathering it. For example, a Deogen’s slow approach during a hunt or a Moroi’s rapid sanity drain are signs that can help confirm a ghost’s identity even without hard evidence.
D.O.T.S. always present
Spirit Box always present
Freezing Temperatures always present
Evidence Types in Phasmophobia
There are seven main evidence types in the game:
Some ghosts must be identified through indirect methods if key evidence is missing. For example, a Hantu can still be recognized by its rapid movement in cold rooms, even if a thermometer is unavailable.
