To make ranked matches a little more forgiving,Marvel Rivalshas introduced Chrono Shield Cards that allow players to prevent a point loss after losing a competitive game. They can only be obtained in a few specific ways, though, and there are limits in place to stop players from abusing this system.
Chrono Shields are nothing new inMarvel Rivals, and players have been using them to soften the blow of losing streaks since the game’s launch. There was no way to manually enable a Chrono Shield until the addition of Chrono Shield Cards, however, which now let players choose when they want to activate the safety net. It’s not as simple as it may seem, though, and someMarvel Rivalsplayers won’t even be able to use them in the first place.
What is a Chrono Shield in Marvel Rivals?
A Chrono Shield is a passive ability inMarvel Rivalsthatprevents players from dropping points after a competitive loss. Chrono Shields charge in the background as players loseMarvel Rivalsmatches, so a competitive losing streak will quickly recharge a player’s Chrono Shield and nullify their next defeat.
How to Get Chrono Shield Cards in Marvel Rivals
Chrono Shield Cardsallow players tomanually charge their Chrono Shieldsbefore jumping into a competitiveMarvel Rivalsmatch, essentially letting you pick and choose when you want to stop losing points in ranked mode.
Chrono Shield Cards can only be obtained via special methods like events and limited-time modes, particularly theGalacta’s Gift eventthat allMarvel Rivalsplayers have access to. Galacta’s Gift rewards players with a total of eight Chrono Shield Cards. Only one Galacta’s Gift reward can be claimed per day, however, so there’s some grinding in your future if you want to stock up. Chrono Shield Cards also expire at the end of each season, so they can’t be hoarded.
There are also some restrictions in place to prevent players from abusing Chrono Shield Cards. For one,Chrono Shield Cards cannout be purchasedwith real money or in-game
currency like Units. Also, Chrono Shield Cardscan only be used in bronze, silver, and gold ranks, so high-levelMarvel Rivalsplayers aren’t able to prevent losses.
