As with any open-world RPG, there are many items to be bought and sold inThe Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Players will find traders in theImperial City’s market districtand other towns, as well as in random locations on the roads of Cyrodiil. However, to obtain more gold from selling and eventually be able to purchase thebest gearfor lower prices, players will want tohaggle inOblivion Remastered.
How To Haggle In Oblivion Remastered
Unlike other games where individual items are haggled for, or the haggling is at least done on checkout,haggling inOblivion Remasteredis donebeforebuying or selling items. Essentially, players are coming to anagreement with the merchantas to the percentagevalue of which items will be bought and sold.
To haggle inOblivion, you must have themerchant’s goods selected, not your own. Then press:
This will bring up a slider, which by default will be at the far left. The aim is topush this as far right as possible, as goods will bebought from the trader at lower prices, and players cansell items at higher prices.
You shouldsee prices change after pressing Continue. Cheap items, such as arrows, will only change after drastic haggling due to rounding.
The slider can be set to any value, but thisdoes not mean the trader has accepted yet.
Convincing The Merchant
Notice that the left side is denoted asEasyand the right asHard. This is because the further right you try, the less likely the trader will be to agree. Success is determined by two factors:
Based on these factors, players should decidehow far to push their luck. If the merchant is an Expert at the Mercantile skill and has a Disposition of less than 50, it’sbest to aim lower. Players will only know if their haggling deal has been accepted when they attempt to buy or sell an item.
If the deal istoo high, they will refuse to sell or buy the item. It will say ‘Offer Refused’ at the top, and the NPC will verbally say something along those lines. Players will then have togo in with a lower offer.
Be aware that the trader’sDisposition will decreaseslightly with each failed offer.
How To Get Better At Haggling In Oblivion Remastered & Get The Best Prices
Haggling is tied to theMercantile skill, explained in this guide. At higher levels, better items and prices will be available. It can beincreased by selling and buying, and with the help oftrainers.
Players of the original game should note that youno longer need to sell items individually to level up Mercantile fast. XP gains are now based on the amount of gold involved in a transaction.
